Dr. Tiede Herrema (born April 21, 1921 – died April 24, 2020) was a businessman from the Netherlands. He became well-known in 1975 when he was kidnapped by a group called the Provisional Irish Republican Army. He was born in a place that is now part of Utrecht.

Tiede Herrema's Work in Ireland
In the 1970s, Mr. Herrema managed a factory named Ferenka. This factory made wire and was located in the city of Limerick, Ireland.
The Kidnapping of Tiede Herrema
On the morning of October 3, 1975, something unexpected happened. Mr. Herrema had just left his home in Castletroy, near Limerick. Two people from the Provisional Irish Republican Army took him. They wanted three of their members, who were in prison, to be set free. One of these prisoners was Rose Dugdale.
The Search and Rescue
Police and security forces started a very large search operation. On October 21, 1975, they found the kidnappers. They were hiding in a house in Monasterevin, which is in County Kildare.
After a struggle that lasted for two more weeks, Mr. Herrema was finally released. He was safe.
Later Life
Tiede Herrema lived a long life. He passed away on April 24, 2020. This was just three days after his 99th birthday.
