Tiffany Renee Darwish (born October 2, 1971), known to the world simply as Tiffany, is an American pop singer. She became a huge star in the 1980s. Her most famous song is a cover of "I Think We're Alone Now". In 1987, this song went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart.

Tiffany became famous in a unique way. Instead of just playing in concert halls, she toured shopping malls across America. This tour, called "The Beautiful You: Celebrating The Good Life Shopping Mall Tour '87," brought her music directly to teenagers. Her first album, Tiffany, and her single "Could've Been" also reached number one.

After her big success in the 1980s, Tiffany continued to make music. She released more albums, including Hold an Old Friend's Hand and The Color of Silence. Over the years, she has explored different music styles like pop, rock, and country. She continues to record new songs and perform for her fans.

Besides music, Tiffany has also acted in movies and on television. She has appeared on reality TV shows like Celebrity Fit Club and I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! in Australia. She has also starred in science fiction movies, including Mega Piranha and Mega Python vs. Gatoroid.

Early Life and First Performances

Tiffany Renee Darwish was born in Norwalk, California. Her parents divorced when she was very young. Her family has roots in Lebanon, Syria, and Ireland.

She loved to sing from a very young age. When she was only four years old, she learned the lyrics to the song "Delta Dawn" by Tanya Tucker. As a young girl, she began performing at country and western music spots. At one show, she collected $235 by passing a hat around, which was her first-ever payment for singing.

When she was singing at a club, she was discovered by songwriter Mae Axton. Mae encouraged her to go to Nashville, Tennessee, a major center for music. There, Tiffany performed on a TV show, which helped her get noticed in the music world.

Music Career

Rise to Fame in the 1980s

In 1984, a record producer named George Tobin heard a demo tape of Tiffany singing and signed her to a contract. In 1985, she competed on the TV show Star Search and won second place. Soon after, she signed a major record deal with MCA Records.

Her first album, Tiffany, was released in 1987. The first single, "Danny," wasn't a hit. To get more people to hear her music, Tobin sent her on a tour of shopping malls. This turned out to be a brilliant idea. Her next single, a cover of "I Think We're Alone Now", became a huge number-one hit.

Her success continued with the ballad "Could've Been", which also reached number one. She also had a top-ten hit with her version of The Beatles' song "I Saw Her Standing There," which she changed to "I Saw Him Standing There." With her debut album, Tiffany became the youngest female artist at the time to have a number-one album. She even toured with the popular boy band New Kids on the Block as her opening act.

As her fame grew, there was a disagreement between her mother and her manager over control of her career. This led to a court case where Tiffany asked to be legally independent. The court did not grant this, but it allowed her grandmother to become her guardian for a time.

Career in the 1990s

In the early 1990s, music styles began to change. Grunge rock and rap became more popular than the dance-pop music Tiffany was known for. Her third album, New Inside (1990), had a more urban sound but did not sell as well as her previous albums.

However, Tiffany remained very popular in Asia. She released an album called Dreams Never Die (1993) just for her Asian fans and toured in countries like Hong Kong, Singapore, and the Philippines. For a while, she moved to Nashville to focus on songwriting and explore country music.

Music and TV in the 2000s

In 2000, Tiffany released the album The Color of Silence. Music critics liked it, with Billboard magazine calling it "one of the best pop albums of the year."

In 2002, she posed for a well-known adult magazine. A few years later, she appeared on the British TV show Hit Me, Baby, One More Time, where she performed a song by the group Girls Aloud.

She released a dance album called Dust Off and Dance in 2005. The album was a thank you to her fans, especially her gay and European fans, who had always supported her. In 2007, she was on the reality show Celebrity Fit Club, which focused on health and fitness.

During this decade, she continued to release new music. Her 2007 album Just Me featured a more personal, singer-songwriter style. Her dance single "Higher" became a hit in dance clubs.

She has continued to release new albums, including Pieces of Me (2018) and Shadows (2022), which have a more rock-oriented sound. In 2019, she joined the Mixtape Tour with New Kids on the Block, Salt-N-Pepa, Debbie Gibson, and Naughty by Nature.

In November 2021, a video showed Tiffany having a difficult time singing "I Think We're Alone Now" at a show. She later apologized to her fans, explaining that she had lost her voice and was frustrated with her performance.

Acting Career

Tiffany's first acting role was in 1990, when she was the voice of Judy Jetson in Jetsons: The Movie. The original voice actress, Janet Waldo, was replaced because the movie studio thought a pop star like Tiffany would attract a younger audience.

She has made guest appearances on TV shows like How I Met Your Mother. In the episode, she played a backup singer in a funny music video that made fun of 1980s pop culture.

Tiffany has also starred in several independent and TV movies, many in the science fiction and horror genres. She acted alongside Debbie Gibson in the Syfy channel movie Mega Python vs. Gatoroid. The movie is famous for a scene where the two singers have a long, comical fight. In 2024, she appeared on the British version of The Masked Singer as the "Eiffel Tower" and finished in fourth place.

Personal Life

In 1992, Tiffany married makeup artist Bulmaro Garcia. They have one son, Elijah, who was born the same year. The couple later divorced. In 2004, she married a British businessman named Ben George. They have since divorced.
