Hanna-Barbera's 50th: A Yabba Dabba Doo Celebration is a special TV show. It was also called A Yabba Dabba Doo Celebration: 50 Years of Hanna-Barbera. This show mixed live-action (real actors) with animation (cartoons). It first aired on the TNT channel on July 17, 1989.

About the Celebration

This TV special was a big party to celebrate 50 years of William Hanna and Joseph Barbera working together. They were famous for creating many beloved cartoons. The show was hosted by popular actors Tony Danza and Annie Potts.

What the Special Showed

The special looked back at Hanna and Barbera's amazing journey. It started with their early days at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon studio. Then, it showed the history of their own company, Hanna-Barbera Productions, which they started in 1957.

The show featured lots of clips and scenes from their famous cartoons. It also had new parts where live actors interacted with cartoon characters. Plus, viewers got a special peek behind the scenes of Jetsons: The Movie, which was a new movie coming out soon. This special was also one of the first animated shows to use Dolby Surround sound.

Remembering Important People

The special was dedicated to Daws Butler, a talented voice actor who passed away during its making. It was also the last TV or film project for two other famous voice actors, Mel Blanc and George O'Hanlon. They both died before the special was shown on TV. A few years later, in 1991, Turner Broadcasting System, which owned TNT, bought Hanna-Barbera.
