Meet the Characters
The main characters of the cartoon, Hokey and Ding-A-Ling, were created by the talented animation artist Ed Benedict.
Hokey Wolf: The Smart Talker
Hokey Wolf (voiced by Daws Butler) is the main character and a smooth talker. He loves to trick people into giving him free food or places to stay. He often succeeds easily, even if there might be problems later! Hokey usually wears a green bow tie with a white collar and a purple hat. His personality was later used for another famous Hanna-Barbera character, Top Cat, who also tried to outsmart others in his own TV show.
Ding-A-Ling Wolf: The Young Sidekick
Ding-A-Ling Wolf (voiced by Doug Young) is Hokey Wolf's younger friend and sidekick. He always goes with Hokey on their many adventures. Ding-A-Ling is usually excited to learn Hokey's tricks, but he sometimes thinks twice about Hokey's plans. Ding often wears a bowler hat (which can be red or black), a green shirt without sleeves, and a black vest.
Hokey Wolf on The Huckleberry Hound Show
Hokey and Ding-A-Ling Wolf starred in 28 short cartoons, each about seven minutes long. These cartoons were part of the third and fourth seasons of The Huckleberry Hound Show, running from 1960 to 1961.
Their very first episode was called Tricks and Treats. The Hokey Wolf series ended with the episode Bean Pod’ners, which aired on December 1, 1961.
