The Good, the Bad, and Huckleberry Hound is an animated Western TV movie from 1988. It was made by Hanna-Barbera as part of their Hanna-Barbera Superstars 10 series.

This movie is a funny take on many classic Western films. Its title is a playful nod to the famous movie The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Huckleberry Hound is often called a "mysterious, steely-eyed, and silent-type stranger." This makes fun of the "Man with No Name" character often seen in Westerns. The story also borrows ideas from other well-known Westerns, like High Noon and High Plains Drifter.

This film was the last time Daws Butler voiced many of his famous characters. These included Huckleberry Hound, Quick Draw McGraw, Baba Looey, Snagglepuss, Hokey Wolf, and Peter Potamus. Mr. Butler passed away shortly after the movie was shown.

This is the only movie in the Superstars 10 series where Huckleberry Hound is the main hero. You might also spot Dinky Dalton from Laff-A-Lympics in the film.

The Story

The year is 1849 in California. Huckleberry Hound rides his horse west, hoping to find a good spot for a country farm. He soon finds a small town called Two-Bit. This town is being bothered by a group of outlaw brothers known as the Dalton Gang. The gang includes Dinky, Finky, Pinky, and Stinky. Stinky had been caught earlier and sent to prison by Judge Tumbleweed Flopner.

The Daltons steal Huck's belongings. They then trick him into a poker game. The prize is a gold nugget that Huck carries. When Huck says they are cheating, the Daltons challenge him to a boxing match. Huck surprises them all by winning the fight!

Huck goes to the bank owned by Quick Draw McGraw and Baba Looey. He deposits his gold and gets to choose a prize. He picks a fountain pen because he likes its blue ink. But then, the Daltons rob the bank! They steal Huck's gold nugget and his new pen.

The Mayor of Two-Bit, Hokey Wolf, quickly calls a town meeting. He makes Huck the new sheriff of Two-Bit right away.

Sheriff Huck goes after the Daltons. After a bit of a struggle, he catches them and puts them in jail. But Stinky soon breaks out of prison! A reporter named Magilla Gorilla covers the news. Huck then gets a letter from Stinky Dalton. Stinky challenges Huck to a gunfight.

None of the townspeople want to help Huck. They all run away to Tahiti. Stinky tries to shoot Huck but fails. So, Stinky breaks his brothers out of jail by dressing up as their grandmother. Huck's horse tries to save him, but Huck chases the Daltons. They strap him to a rocket and launch him into the sky. Everyone thinks Huck is gone for good.

The Daltons become the richest outlaws in the West. They take over Two-Bit and rename it "Daltonville." When the townspeople return, the Daltons kick them out. The townsfolk leave on a freight train. They blame themselves for Huck's supposed death and losing their town.

Meanwhile, the rocket crashes at a Native American tribal village. Huck survives but has lost his memory. The chief's daughter, Desert Flower, finds him. They fall in love, and Huck asks her to marry him.

First, Huck must pass two tests to get the chief's blessing. The first test is a game show. Huck wins, even though the chief tries to cheat with his buzzer. For the second test, Huck must wrestle Chuckling Chipmunk. Chuckling Chipmunk is the strongest man in the tribe and also likes Desert Flower. Huck loses the wrestling match. However, he saves Desert Flower when she falls into a river. This earns him the chief's blessing.

Huck is about to get married when his horse returns. The horse helps Huck remember everything. He reminds Huck that the Daltons are still free. The horse also mentions that Huck's real name is Bob. Huck promises to return for Desert Flower and leaves to finish his mission.

Huck finds the people of Two-Bit working at a circus. He convinces them to help him get their town back. Huck recruits a projectionist and showgirl named Rusty Nails. They plan to use special effects to make Huck look like a ghost. The goal is to scare the Daltons away. Rusty shows a film to the Daltons. It warns them that Huck's ghost will arrive in Daltonville on the "midnight ghost train." The Daltons are scared, except for Stinky.

Huck arrives on the train and scares all the Daltons, even Stinky. But they still refuse to go to jail. The Two-Bit townsfolk chase them into the state prison. The prison is disguised to look like the Daltons' hideout. Huck then reveals his trick. Everyone congratulates him for bringing the Daltons to justice!

The narrator tells us what happened to Huck and the townsfolk:
