About the Show
Each episode of The Huckleberry Hound Show was 30 minutes long. But it wasn't just one long story! Instead, each episode was split into three shorter, 7-minute cartoons. This format allowed viewers to enjoy different characters and stories in one sitting.
- The first cartoon always starred Huckleberry Hound himself.
- The second cartoon featured Yogi Bear and his best friend, Boo Boo Bear.
- The third cartoon was about two mice, Pixie and Dixie, and their enemy, Mr. Jinks the cat.
Yogi Bear became super popular, even more so than Huckleberry Hound! Because of how much people loved him, Yogi Bear got his very own show in 1961. After Yogi left, a new character named Hokey Wolf took his place in The Huckleberry Hound Show.
Meet the Characters
The show featured a fun cast of characters, each with their own unique personality.
Huckleberry Hound
Huckleberry Hound is a calm, blue dog with a slow, Southern accent. He often tries different jobs, like a police officer or a knight, but things usually go wrong in funny ways. Even when things don't work out, Huckleberry always stays cheerful and relaxed.
Yogi Bear and Boo Boo
Yogi Bear is a clever bear who lives in Jellystone Park. He's always trying to steal picnic baskets from campers, often saying his famous line, "Hey Boo Boo, let's get us a pic-a-nic basket!" His smaller, smarter friend, Boo Boo Bear, often tries to warn Yogi about the park ranger, Ranger Smith.
Pixie and Dixie and Mr. Jinks
Pixie and Dixie are two smart mice who live in a house with a cat named Mr. Jinks. Mr. Jinks is always trying to catch the mice, but they are usually too clever for him. He often says, "I hate those meeces to pieces!"
Hokey Wolf
Hokey Wolf is a smooth-talking wolf who is always trying to trick others to get what he wants. He often has his small, innocent sidekick, Ding-A-Ling, with him. Hokey is known for his clever plans, which sometimes work out and sometimes don't.
Voice Actors
A few talented voice actors brought all these characters to life.
- Daws Butler was the voice behind many main characters. He voiced Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear, Dixie, Mr. Jinks, and Hokey Wolf.
- Don Messick voiced Boo Boo Bear, Ranger Smith, and Pixie. He also narrated the show.
- Julie Bennett voiced Yogi Bear's girlfriend, Cindy Bear.
- Doug Young voiced Hokey Wolf's friend, Ding-A-Ling.
These actors helped make the characters memorable and loved by many.
