Jetsons: The Movie is an animated science fiction comedy film from 1990. It is based on the popular TV show The Jetsons. The movie was made by Hanna-Barbera Productions and released by Universal Pictures. It was directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. The film features the voices of original cast members like George O'Hanlon and Mel Blanc, plus singer Tiffany as Judy Jetson.

The story follows George Jetson. His boss, Cosmo Spacely, gives him a big new job. George has to run a factory on an asteroid! He brings his family along to help. But they soon discover a secret about the factory's location.

The movie came out on July 6, 1990. It earned $20.3 million in theaters. Sadly, George O'Hanlon and Mel Blanc, who voiced George and Mr. Spacely, passed away while the movie was being made. The film was dedicated to their memory. This movie was the last official Jetsons production until 2017.

Plot

In the future, the company Spacely Sprockets and Spindles opens a new mining factory. This factory is on an asteroid far from Earth. The goal is to make products much cheaper and faster. However, someone or something keeps causing problems at the factory.

Mr. Cosmo Spacely (Mel Blanc) checks on the "Orbiting-Ore Asteroid." He learns from the engineer, Rudy-2 (Ronnie Schell), that the latest factory manager has left. This is the fourth manager Mr. Spacely has lost!

Worried about his company, Mr. Spacely chooses George Jetson (George O'Hanlon) to be the new manager. George and his family must move to the asteroid. The family is not happy about leaving their normal life. They had many plans for that week!

They set up their new home in an apartment complex next to the asteroid factory. It takes some time for the family to get used to their new surroundings.

Rudy-2 shows George around the factory. They get ready for the big re-opening. Meanwhile, Jane Jetson (Penny Singleton) and Rosie the Robot (Jean Vander Pyl) become friends with Rudy-2's wife, Lucy-2 (Patti Deutsch).

Judy Jetson (Tiffany) finds it hard to adjust. She missed a chance to go on a date with a rock star. But she feels better after meeting a teenage boy named Apollo Blue (Paul Kreppel). Elroy Jetson (Patric Zimmerman) meets Rudy-2's son, Teddy-2 (Dana Hill). They do not get along at first, but soon become friends.

George feels ready to get the factory running again. Mr. Spacely is excited to see the factory working at full speed. He wants to make the one millionth Spacely sprocket. But on opening day, the factory is sabotaged again!

For several days, George and Rudy-2 try to fix things. But the problems continue. Mr. Spacely gets very upset. He thinks George is responsible and decides to visit the asteroid himself. George stays overnight at the factory. He hopes to catch whoever is causing the trouble. He falls asleep and is taken away by mysterious creatures.

Elroy, Teddy-2, and their neighbor Fergie Furbelow (Russi Taylor) sneak into the factory. They meet Squeep (Frank Welker), a furry alien. Squeep is part of a group called Grungees.

Squeep tells them that the factory is drilling into his people's home. The Grungees live inside the asteroid! Soon, Jane, Judy, Apollo, Rudy-2, and Astro show up. They also realize what is happening.

George is found tied up in the Grungees' home. He understands what the factory is doing. But Mr. Spacely does not. Seeing his factory stopped, Mr. Spacely starts it up again. He ignores Rudy-2, who tries to stop him. This nearly buries Elroy and Squeep under rocks.

Everyone on the asteroid rushes to the surface. George manages to shut down the factory. He shows his boss exactly what is happening. George finally stands up to Mr. Spacely. He tells him that he only cares about money.

They reach an agreement: the Grungees will run the factory. They will make new sprockets by recycling old ones. This stops the destruction of the Grungees' homes inside the asteroid.

Spacely Sprockets finally reaches its one millionth sprocket! George asks about becoming vice president. Mr. Spacely jokes that George is lucky to get his old job back. Only when everyone else pressures him, Mr. Spacely reluctantly promotes George to vice president. But without a raise!

George knows he is no longer needed as the head of the asteroid factory. The Grungees are now running it. With sad hearts, the Jetsons say goodbye to their new friends. Fergie even tries to hide in their car to go with them! The family then returns home to Earth. As they fly over the factory, the Grungees arrange themselves to spell out "THANKS GEORGE." It is their way of saying goodbye for saving their home.
