About Tigran Tsitoghdzyan
Tigran Tsitoghdzyan was born in Yerevan, Armenia, on October 12, 1976. His mother was a concert pianist, and his father was a philosopher. Tigran loved art from a young age. He studied at the Fine Art Academy of Yerevan, graduating in 1999. After that, he moved to Switzerland to continue his art education. He earned two degrees there by 2005. Since 2009, Tigran has lived in New York City. One of his famous paintings, the Armenian Mirror from 2015, is now in the National Gallery of Armenia.
Tigran's Art Career
Tigran started showing his artwork very early. He had his first art shows, both in Armenia and other countries, when he was just 10 years old! Some of his childhood paintings are kept in the Children’s Art Museum in Yerevan, Armenia.
The Mirrors Series
In 2012, Tigran began a special group of paintings called the Mirrors series. These paintings often show people with their faces partly covered or reflected. One of these paintings, "Mirror V," was sold at a big auction in New York in 2014.
Art in Film and Public Spaces
In 2018, a documentary film called American Mirror: Intimations of Immortality was released. It was directed by Arthur Balder. Tigran Tsitoghdzyan and his amazing paintings were featured in this movie. In May 2021, Tigran's art was shown in a very public place: Times Square in New York City. His works appeared on a large billboard as part of the Cube Art Fair. This fair wanted to show art created during the time when many people were staying home.
Art Exhibitions
Tigran's first solo exhibition was in 1986, when he was only 10 years old. His artworks were displayed at the Children's Art Museum in Yerevan, Armenia.
Exhibitions in Armenia
After living outside Armenia for many years, Tigran returned for a solo show in Yerevan in 2015. This exhibition took place at the Cafesjian Center for the Arts. It featured six of his large Mirror paintings. One of these was the Armenian Mirror. This painting shows an elderly Armenian woman covering her face in sadness. Tigran painted it to remember the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The exhibition also included several big paintings from his other series called Crowd.
Exhibitions in New York City
In 2018, Tigran had his first solo exhibition in New York City, where he has lived for over 12 years. The show was called Tigran Tsitoghdzyan: Uncanny and was held at the Allouche Gallery in Downtown Manhattan. It showed many of his recent artworks. Later in 2018, his works were also shown at the Emmanuel Fremin Gallery for his Tigran Tsi: Mirrors Reimagined exhibition.
International Exhibitions
Also in 2018, Tigran's paintings were part of the 25th anniversary of Opera Gallery’s Monaco Master’s show. This was a modern art show supported by Prince Albert II of Monaco. In 2021, during Singapore Art Week, the Opera Gallery in Singapore presented a special collection of artworks that Tigran created just for that exhibition.
