Tigris is a small, historic community located in western Douglas County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is known as an unincorporated community, which means it's a group of homes and buildings that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government. You can find Tigris just west of the Beaver Creek bridge, right on Missouri Route 14.
Discovering Tigris: A Look at Its Past
Tigris once had its own post office, which was a very important place for people to send and receive mail. This post office first opened its doors in 1909. It served the community for several years before it finally closed in 1926. The name "Tigris" for this community comes from a famous and ancient river, the Tigris River, which is located far away in Asia.
