Tilton is a small, unincorporated community located in the state of Iowa, United States. It is unique because it stretches across two different counties: Poweshiek County and Keokuk County. An unincorporated community means it does not have its own local government.
History
Tilton was first planned out, or "platted," in 1884. The community was named after George W. Tilton. He was an important official who worked for the railroad at that time.
In 1902, Tilton was a very small place. Only 27 people lived there. The community once had its own post office. However, this post office closed down in 1931.
