Who Was Timothy Ahearne?
Timothy Ahearne was born in a place called Dirreen, Athea, in Limerick, Ireland. His father, William, was a farmer. Timothy had a younger brother named Dan Ahearn. Dan also became a very famous athlete. Dan even held the world record for the triple jump for many years.
Olympic Glory in 1908
Timothy Ahearne won a gold medal in the triple jump event. This happened at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. At that time, Ireland was not seen as a separate country by the Olympic Committee. So, Timothy represented "Great Britain and Ireland."
