Tim Hosley's Baseball Journey
Starting His MLB Career
Tim Hosley first joined the Detroit Tigers in 1966. He made his debut in the major leagues with them in 1970. He played only a few games for the Tigers over two seasons. Before the 1973 season, he was traded to the Oakland Athletics.
Playing for the Oakland Athletics
With the Athletics, Tim Hosley played in 24 games during their championship years in 1973 and 1974. The Athletics had many good catchers at that time. This meant Tim Hosley did not get to play much.
Time with the Chicago Cubs
In December 1974, the Chicago Cubs chose Tim Hosley to join their team. This was his best time in the major leagues. In 1975, he hit for a .255 batting average. He also hit 6 home runs in 62 games. He shared catching duties with other players.
Returning to the Athletics
Even though he played well, the Cubs moved Tim Hosley to another team early in the 1976 season. He was claimed by the Oakland Athletics again. His second time with the Athletics gave him more playing time. However, his hitting numbers went down. He hit for a .199 batting average in 79 games between 1976 and 1978.
Tim Hosley stayed in the Athletics' minor league system for a while. He had one last short time in the major leagues in 1981. After that, he was released from the team in August 1981. In 1989, Tim Hosley played one more professional season. He played for the Fort Myers Sun Sox in a league for older players.
