Timothy David Llewelyn Hughes, born on July 23, 1977, is a British worship leader, singer, and songwriter. He is also an Anglican priest. Tim Hughes used to be the director of worship at Holy Trinity Brompton, a large church in London. He is now a minister in the Church of England and the Vicar of St Luke's, Gas Street in Birmingham.

He also leads Worship Central, which is a group that helps train people in worship and provides resources for churches around the world. Tim Hughes has written many popular songs sung globally. These include "Here I Am to Worship" (which won an award), "Happy Day", "Beautiful One", "Jesus Saves", "At Your Name", and "The Way".

Early Life and Family

Tim Hughes grew up in High Wycombe. His father was also an Anglican vicar. When Tim was a teenager, his family moved to Birmingham. This was because his father became the vicar of St John's Church in Harborne.

Tim studied history at Sheffield University and finished his degree in 2000. He is married to Rachel, and they have four children.

Music Journey

Tim Hughes started his music career in 1997. He was asked by Mike Pilavachi to lead worship at a Soul Survivor festival. After Matt Redman left Soul Survivor Watford Church, Tim took over as the Worship Pastor.

In 2005, he moved to Holy Trinity Brompton, a church in central London. There, he became the director of worship. In 2015, Tim and his family moved to Birmingham. They started Gas Street Church, which they now lead.

Tim is also part of Compassionart. This is a charity started by musician Martin Smith.

Becoming a Priest

Tim Hughes studied to become a priest at St Mellitus College in London. On June 29, 2013, he became a deacon in the Church of England. This was done by Richard Chartres, who was the Bishop of London, at St Paul's Cathedral.

On June 22, 2014, he became a priest. This ceremony was led by Paul Williams, the Bishop of Kensington.

From 2013 to 2015, Tim worked at Holy Trinity Brompton in London. In 2015, he was chosen to be the priest-in-charge of St Luke's, Gas Street, in Birmingham. This church was a new project from Holy Trinity Brompton. It involved turning an old warehouse into a church for Tim and his team. The church officially opened on February 5, 2016.

Worship Central

Tim Hughes started Worship Central with Al Gordon. Al was the associate director of worship at Holy Trinity Brompton. Worship Central is a place for training and resources about worship. Their goal is to help people with worship all over the world.

Recording Music

Tim Hughes' songs were first released in the UK by Survivor Records. They were shared globally by EMI CMG, a big music company. He is now signed with Integrity Music.

Here I Am to Worship (Album)

His album, Here I Am to Worship, came out in 2001. This album included the songs "Jesus, You Alone" and the award-winning song "Here I Am to Worship". Both of these songs are now very well-known worship songs around the world.

When Silence Falls (Album)

When Silence Falls was released in 2004. It featured popular songs like "Beautiful One", "Consuming Fire", and "Whole World in His Hands". The song "Saviour" on this album included the hip hop group 29th Chapter.

Holding Nothing Back (Album)

Tim's third album, Holding Nothing Back, was released on April 3, 2007. It has songs such as "Living for your glory", "The Highest and the Greatest", "God of Justice", "Everything", and "Happy Day".

Happy Day (Album)

In July 2008, Tim Hughes recorded a live album and DVD called Happy Day. This was done at a Worship Central event in London. The album included both older songs and new ones, like "Give us your courage". It was released on March 14, 2009.

Love Shine Through (Album)

A fourth studio album, Love Shine Through, was released on March 11, 2011. Martin Smith produced this album. It featured musicians like Marc James, Michael Guy Chislet, and members of the band Rend Collective Experiment.

Pocketful of Faith (Album)

On July 17, 2015, Tim Hughes released his fifth studio album, Pocketful of Faith. Nathan Nockels produced this album. Tim worked with other songwriters like Martin Smith, Matt Redman, Reuben Morgan, Phil Wickham, Jonas Myrin, and his Worship Central teammates Nick Herbert, Luke Hellebronth, and Ben Cantelon.

Books by Tim Hughes

Tim Hughes has also written books. In 2003, he published Passion For Your Name. In this book, he shares advice on leading worship and writing songs.

He also published a book called Holding Nothing Back. This book has the same name as his third album.

Awards and Recognition

In June 2017, Tim Hughes received the Cranmer Award for Worship. The Archbishop of Canterbury gave him this award. It was for his amazing work in modern worship music.
