Timothy David Llewelyn Hughes (born 23 July 1977) is a British worship leader, singer, and songwriter. He is also an Anglican priest. Tim used to be the director of worship at Holy Trinity Brompton. This is a large Anglican church in central London. Later, he became a minister in the Church of England. He is now the Vicar of St Luke's, Gas Street in Birmingham.

Tim also leads Worship Central. This is a group that trains people in worship and provides resources worldwide. He has written many songs sung all over the world. Some famous ones include "Here I Am to Worship", "Happy Day", and "Beautiful One". "Here I Am to Worship" even won a Dove Award.

Tim Hughes grew up in a family connected to the church. His father was an Anglican vicar. Tim spent his early years in High Wycombe. When he was a teenager, his family moved to Birmingham. This was because his father became the vicar of St John's Church. Tim went to Sheffield University and studied history. He graduated in 2000.

Tim is married to Rachel. They have four children together.

Tim's Career Journey

Starting in Music

Tim Hughes started his music journey in 1997. He was asked by Mike Pilavachi to lead worship at a Soul Survivor festival. After Matt Redman left Soul Survivor Watford Church, Tim took over as the Worship Pastor. In 2005, he moved to Holy Trinity Brompton (HTB). This is a big Anglican church in London. There, he became the director of worship.

In 2015, Tim and his family moved to Birmingham. They started a new church called Gas Street Church. They now lead this church. Tim is also part of Compassionart. This is a charity started by musician Martin Smith.

Becoming a Priest

Tim studied to become a priest at St Mellitus College in London. On 29 June 2013, he became a deacon in the Church of England. This was done by Richard Chartres, the Bishop of London. A year later, on 22 June 2014, he became a priest. This ordination was led by Paul Williams.

From 2013 to 2015, Tim worked at Holy Trinity Brompton. In 2015, he was appointed the priest-in-charge of St Luke's, Gas Street, in Birmingham. This church was a new project from HTB. It involved turning an old warehouse into a church. The church officially opened on 5 February 2016.

Worship Central

Tim Hughes started Worship Central with Al Gordon. Al was the associate director of worship at Holy Trinity Brompton. Worship Central is a group that trains people in worship. It also provides resources for worship leaders. Their goal is to help people with worship all over the world.

Recording Music

Tim Hughes' songs were first published by Survivor Records in the UK. They were shared globally by EMI CMG. He is now signed with Integrity Music.

Tim has released six main albums. These include Here I Am to Worship (2001), When Silence Falls (2004), Holding Nothing Back (2007), Happy Day (2009), Love Shine Through (2011), and Pocketful of Faith (2015).

Here I Am to Worship (2001)

This album introduced popular worship songs. Two well-known songs from it are "Jesus, You Alone" and "Here I Am to Worship". Both of these songs became famous worship anthems around the world.

When Silence Falls (2004)

This album featured songs like "Beautiful One" and "Consuming Fire". It also included "Whole World in His Hands". A special bonus track, "Saviour", featured the hip hop group 29th Chapter.

Holding Nothing Back (2007)

Tim's third album came out in 2007. It has songs such as "Living for your glory" and "Happy Day". Before recording this album, Tim was asked if any songs would become worldwide hits. He said it's always a surprise which songs connect with people.

Happy Day (2009)

In 2008, Tim recorded a live album and DVD called Happy Day. This was at a Worship Central event in London. The album included new songs and older favorites. It was released in March 2009.

Love Shine Through (2011)

This album was released in 2011. It was produced by Martin Smith. Other musicians like Marc James and Michael Guy Chislet also worked on it. Members of the band Rend Collective Experiment were also involved.

Pocketful of Faith (2015)

Tim's fifth studio album came out in 2015. Nathan Nockels produced this album. Tim worked with other songwriters on it. These included Martin Smith and Matt Redman.

Writing Books

Tim Hughes has also written books. In 2003, he published Passion For Your Name. In this book, he shares advice on leading worship and writing songs. He also wrote a book called Holding Nothing Back. This book has the same name as his third album.

Awards and Recognition

In June 2017, Tim Hughes received a special award. It was the Cranmer Award for Worship. The Archbishop of Canterbury gave him this award. It was for his amazing work in modern worship music.
