Tima Shomali (Arabic: تيما الشوملي, born on March 7, 1985) is a talented director from Jordan. She also works as a producer, writer, and actress. Some people have even called her the "Tina Fey of the Arab world."
Tima first became known for her work on the YouTube show Bath Bayakha. She later started her own company, Filmizion Productions, in 2012. Through her company, she created and starred in a popular web series called Femaleshow. This show was watched by millions of people online and later aired on TV.
In 2021, Tima Shomali released AlRawabi School for Girls on Netflix. This show became the second original Arabic series on Netflix.

Tima's Education Journey
Tima Shomali first studied Business Administration and Finance at the University of Jordan. At that time, there were no film courses offered at universities in Jordan.
After getting her first degree, she joined workshops and seminars. These were offered by the Royal Film Commission – Jordan. She then made her first short film. Later, she joined the Red Sea Institute of Cinematic Arts (RSICA). She earned a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree there. This degree focused on screenwriting and producing films.
Tima's Career in Film and TV
After finishing her studies at RSICA, Tima Shomali started her career. She became a comedy writer and lead actress on the online show Bath Bayakha. This show was very popular, getting 11 million views on YouTube. It was a big hit in the region.
Starting Filmizion Productions
Tima's success with Bath Bayakha led her to create her own company. In 2012, she started Filmizion Productions. She then launched her own online show called Femaleshow.
At first, Femaleshow featured social experiments done in the streets of Amman. Tima would then share her thoughts on these experiments. She used funny monologues and skits that she wrote herself. Tima became one of Jordan's most famous comedian actors. She showed that women can be very funny, challenging old ideas.
Femaleshow and Its Impact
Later, Femaleshow changed into a fictional romantic comedy series. It showed a couple's life from dating to marriage and pregnancy. The show was seen by over 25 million viewers. It was named one of the top five web series in the Arab region.
Tima wanted Femaleshow to feel real to people. She used comedy to talk about issues in Jordanian society. She aimed to change stereotypes about Arabs and women around the world. Working Behind the Camera
In 2015, Tima Shomali started working more behind the camera. She produced a TV series called Zain. She also worked as a supervising producer for the show Nida'a. She was even a guest on Nida'a to talk about relationships in the Arab world.
Tima also hosted an entertainment chat show called Dardachat in the UAE. In 2017, she was part of Netflix's “She Rules” campaign. She made a short video that challenged stereotypes about women. AlRawabi School for Girls
On April 13, 2019, Tima Shomali announced a new project. She was creating an original Arabic Netflix series. This show was made with her company, Filmizion Productions. It is called AlRawabi School for Girls. The series was released in 2021 on Netflix.
Tima was the show runner, writer, and director for this series. It was the second original Arabic Netflix series ever. She wanted to tell a story about women in the region. Working with writer Shirin Kamal, they created a drama series with an all-female cast. The show takes place in an all-girls school. It explores themes of revenge and bullying. The story is about a girl who is bullied and decides to get revenge.
Simran Sethi, a director at Netflix, praised the show. She said it was the first Middle Eastern young adult series. It celebrates women both on and behind the screen.
