Tima Shomali (born March 7, 1985) is a talented director, writer, and actress from Jordan. She is known for creating fun and thoughtful shows. Some people have even called her the "Tina Fey of the Arab world" because she's so funny and creative!
Tima studied at the Red Sea Institute of Cinematic Arts (RSICA). After that, she joined a YouTube show called Bath Bayakha. This was where she first became known for her writing and acting. In 2012, she started her own company, Filmizion Productions. Through her company, she created and starred in her first web series, Femaleshow. This show became very popular online and was even shown on TV.
Her show AlRawabi School for Girls, released on Netflix in 2021, was a big hit. It was one of the first original Arabic series made for Netflix.

Tima's Education
Tima Shomali first studied Business Administration and Finance at the University of Jordan. At that time, there weren't many film courses in Jordan. But Tima really wanted to work in movies!
So, after getting her first degree, she took part in many workshops. These were offered by the Royal Film Commission – Jordan. She even made her first short film. Later, she joined a special program at the Red Sea Institute of Cinematic Arts (RSICA). This school started in 2008. Tima earned a master's degree in screenwriting and producing there.
Tima's Career Journey
After finishing her studies at RSICA, Tima started her career. She became a comedy writer and lead actress on an online show called Bath Bayakha. This show was a huge success! It got 11 million views on YouTube.
Starting Her Own Company
Because Bath Bayakha was so popular, Tima decided to start her own company. In 2012, she created Filmizion Productions. She then made her own online show called Femaleshow.
At first, Femaleshow did social experiments on the streets of Amman. Tima would then share her funny thoughts about them. She also wrote and performed funny skits. Tima became one of the most famous comedian actors in Jordan. She showed everyone that women can be very funny!
Femaleshow Becomes a Series
Later, Tima changed Femaleshow into a romantic comedy series. It showed a couple's life from a woman's point of view. It covered dating, getting engaged, marriage, and even pregnancy.
This series got over 25 million views! It was named one of the top five web series in the Arab region. Tima wanted Femaleshow to feel real to people. She used comedy to talk about issues in Jordanian society. She wanted to change old ideas about women and Arabs. Tima became a very well-known person in the entertainment world. She also uses her social media to support important causes. These include education for everyone, helping women, and supporting young people.
Working Behind the Camera
In 2015, Tima started working more behind the camera. She produced a TV series called Zain. She also worked as a supervising producer for a show called Nida'a. Tima was even a guest on Nida'a to talk about relationships in the Arab world.
Later, she hosted an entertainment chat show in the UAE called Dardachat. In 2017, Tima was part of a Netflix campaign called “She Rules”. She made a short video that challenged old ideas about Arab women. In 2018, Tima hosted Sadeem. This was a reality show where young people competed to become the next digital superstar.
AlRawabi School for Girls
On April 13, 2019, Tima shared exciting news on Facebook. She announced she was working on an original Arabic Netflix series. It was called AlRawabi School for Girls. Her company, Filmizion Productions, worked with Netflix on it. The show was released in 2021.
Tima was the show runner, writer, and director for this series. It was the second original Arabic Netflix series ever! She wanted to tell a story about women in the region. Tima and writer Shirin Kamal created a drama series with an all-female cast. It takes place in an all-girls school. The show explores ideas of revenge and bullying. It's about a girl who gets bullied and decides to get revenge.
Simran Sethi, a director at Netflix, said they were proud to work with Tima. She said the show brings a fresh look at Middle Eastern stories. She was excited to share Al Rawabi School for Girls with people all over the world.
