Tina Britt, whose real name is Marion Brittingham, was born on July 5, 1938. She is an American R&B singer. During the 1960s, she had two songs that became hits on the Billboard R&B music chart. She also released one album called Blue All The Way and six singles (45s) between 1965 and 1970.

Tina Britt's Early Life and Music Start

Tina Britt was born in Smyrna, Delaware. She grew up in Florida and Philadelphia. Tina traveled a lot with her father when she was young. She began singing as a teenager. Her first performances were at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Sanford, Florida.

In 1965, while working in New York, Tina met Henry 'Juggy' Murray. He was a music producer. Juggy offered her a chance to record rhythm and blues music. This was for his record label, Eastern Records. Eastern was part of the Sue label.

Tina Britt's First Hit Songs

Tina Britt's very first single was a song called "The Real Thing." It was written by Nickolas Ashford, Valerie Simpson, and Jo Armstead. This song became a hit, reaching number 20 on the R&B chart.

The same recording session that produced "The Real Thing" also created her next single. This song was "You're Absolutely Right." It was another song written by Ashford, Simpson, and Armstead. She also recorded "Look," a song by Sidney Barnes and J.J.Jackson.

Another group, the Apollas, released their own version of "You're Absolutely Right." This split the sales, meaning neither version became a big hit.

Later Recordings with Veep and Minit Records

It was three years before Tina Britt released more music. In 1968, she signed with the Veep label. This label was part of United Artists Records. Veep released two singles for Tina.

One song was "Who Was That," which reached number 39 on the R&B chart. The other was a new version of Don Covay's song "Sookie, Sookie." Both of these songs were produced by Juggy Murray.

Veep Records stopped operating in 1969. Tina Britt then moved to Minit Records. Minit Records was part of the newly acquired Liberty Records. Minit Records released her only album, Blue All The Way. Juggy Murray also produced this album.

However, her only single for Minit, a cover of Otis Redding's "Hawg For You," did not make it onto the music charts.

Tina Britt's Later Career and Life

After 1970, Tina Britt's main recording career ended. She sometimes sang background vocals for other artists. For example, she sang on Wilbert Harrison's album Let's Work Together. Soon after, Tina left the music recording business.

Her later life focused on raising her children. In 2009, she was interviewed by In The Basement magazine. At that time, she was living in Philadelphia. In 2012, Tina Britt released a new song. It was a download single called "Play It Back."

In 2006, a CD was released called Blue All the Way ...plus. This CD included all of her singles. It also had other songs that had not been released before.
