Tina Britt's Music Journey

Early Life and Music Beginnings

Tina Britt was born in Smyrna, Delaware. She grew up in Florida and Philadelphia. Tina moved around a lot with her father. She started singing when she was a teenager. Her first performances were at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Sanford, Florida.

In 1965, while working in New York, Tina met Henry 'Juggy' Murray. He gave her a chance to record R&B music. This was for the Eastern record label. Eastern was part of the Sue label.

First Hit Songs

Tina's first song was "The Real Thing." It was written by Nickolas Ashford, Valerie Simpson, and Jo Armstead. This song became a hit, reaching number 20 on the R&B chart.

Another song from the same recording session was "You're Absolutely Right." This was also written by Ashford, Simpson, and Armstead. Tina also recorded "Look," a song by Sidney Barnes and J.J.Jackson. Other artists released their own versions of these songs. This meant sales were split, and these songs did not make it onto the music charts.

Later Recordings and Album

Three years later, in 1968, Tina released new music with the Veep label. Veep was a part of United Artists Records. They released two songs: "Who Was That," which reached number 39 on the R&B chart, and "Sookie, Sookie." Both of these songs were produced by Juggy Murray.

In 1969, Veep Records closed down. Tina Britt then moved to Minit Records. This label was part of Liberty Records. Minit Records released Tina's only album, Blue All The Way. Juggy Murray also produced this album. However, her only single for Minit, a cover of Otis Redding's Hawg For You, did not make it onto the charts.

After Her Recording Career

By 1970, Tina Britt's main recording career had ended. She sometimes sang background vocals for other artists. For example, she sang on Wilbert Harrison's album Let's Work Together. After this, Tina left the music industry. She focused on raising her children.

In 2009, Tina was living in Philadelphia. In 2012, she released a new song called "Play It Back." This song was available for download.

In 2006, a CD called Blue All the Way ...plus was released. It included all of Tina's singles and some songs that had not been released before.
