Ting is a bubbly drink that is very popular in the Caribbean. It gets its special taste from real Jamaican grapefruit juice. The drink is both a little sour and sweet at the same time.
You can find Ting in a green glass bottle, a green plastic bottle, or a green and yellow can. Just like some other fruit drinks, Ting has tiny bits of grapefruit pulp at the bottom. This is totally normal! Ting is also made in the United Kingdom under a special agreement. You can now find different kinds of Ting, like Pink Ting Soda, Orange Ting, Diet Ting Soda, and even a ginger beer flavor.
The Story of Ting
Ting was first made in 1976 by a company called Desnoes & Geddes Limited. This company is from Jamaica.
In 1993, a big company named Guinness bought a large part of Desnoes & Geddes. Later, Desnoes & Geddes decided to focus only on making beer. So, in 1999, PepsiCo's company, Pepsi-Cola Jamaica, bought their soda factory in Kingston, Jamaica.
Today, Ting is sold all over the Caribbean, in the United States, and in Canada. It's not as easy to find in other parts of the world. However, it is also made in the UK using grapefruits from Jamaica.
Another Drink Called Ting
Did you know there was another soda also called "Ting" in the United States? This drink was popular in parts of Wisconsin. It was made by different companies and came in many flavors. These included cream soda, grapefruit, cola, orange, and grape. This American version of Ting stopped being made around 2009.
