Tinney Grove, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Tinney Grove is a small place in the northeastern part of Ray County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's called an unincorporated community because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county. Tinney Grove is also considered part of the big Kansas City metropolitan area, which means it's close to the larger city of Kansas City.

This community is located along Missouri Route A. It's about five miles south of a town called Braymer, which is in the next county over, Caldwell County. Tinney Grove is also about seventeen miles northeast of Richmond, another town in Missouri.

History of Tinney Grove

The story of Tinney Grove began a long time ago, in 1840. This was when the very first people decided to settle down and build homes here. The person who started this settlement was named Nathan Tinney. The community was later named Tinney Grove in his honor.

Just one year later, in 1841, a post office was opened in the community. It was called "Tinneys Grove," which was a common way to spell names back then. This post office was very important for the people living there, as it helped them send and receive letters and packages. The Tinneys Grove post office stayed open for many years, serving the community until 1904, when it finally closed down.
