Braymer was founded in 1887. It was named after Judge Daniel Braymer, who was a local banker. A post office has been open in Braymer since the city was first established in 1887.

The city of Braymer is located where three Missouri roads meet: Route 116, Route A, and Route N.
Nearby towns include Cowgill, which is about seven miles to the west-southwest. Ludlow is about 6.5 miles to the northeast in Livingston County. A stream called Mud Creek flows along the east side of Braymer.
