Tipton started as a community near a train station. This station was called Cambria Station. It was on the St. Louis and Cairo Railroad line. Many of the first people who settled here were from Ireland. They named their new home after Tipperary, a county in Ireland. Over time, the name changed. It went from Tipperary to Tiptown. Eventually, it became the Tipton we know today.
