The Tirón River is a beautiful waterway in northern Spain. It flows through the regions of La Rioja and Castile and León. This river is about 65 kilometers (40 miles) long.

Its journey begins high up in the Sierra de la Demanda mountains. The Tirón then flows into the much larger Ebro River near the town of Haro. One of its most important helpers is the Oja River, which joins the Tirón as a tributary.

The Tirón River's Journey

The Tirón River starts its flow in the Sierra de la Demanda, a mountain range in Spain. From these mountains, the river travels through different landscapes. It passes through parts of the Burgos province before reaching La Rioja.

Where the Tirón Ends

The Tirón River does not flow into the sea directly. Instead, it joins another, much bigger river called the Ebro. The Ebro River is one of the longest rivers in Spain. The Tirón meets the Ebro to the northeast of a town called Haro. This meeting point is important for the water system of the region.

Important Tributaries

A tributary is a smaller river or stream that flows into a larger river. For the Tirón River, its longest and most important tributary is the Oja River. The Oja River adds a lot of water to the Tirón, helping it grow as it flows towards the Ebro.

Protecting the Tirón River

Rivers like the Tirón are very important for the environment and for people. They provide water for plants, animals, and even for farming. Because of this, it is important to protect rivers from erosion and pollution. Erosion happens when the river's water wears away the land along its banks. Work is sometimes done to help keep the riverbanks strong and healthy.
