Tisdale is a small, unincorporated community in Cowley County, Kansas, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
History of Tisdale
Tisdale had its own post office, which is like a mail delivery center, starting on December 1, 1871. It closed down on April 15, 1920.
For a while, Tisdale was a busy place. It had three stores and many other buildings. People from nearby farms and areas would come here to buy and sell things. This was called 'flourishing trade.'
However, things changed in the spring of 1880. A new railroad was built about four miles north of Tisdale, going through a town called Burden, Kansas. This made Burden a more important place for trade, and Tisdale became less busy.
Geography of Tisdale
Today, Tisdale is considered a ghost town. This means it's a place where most of the buildings are gone, and very few people, if any, live there anymore.
You can find Tisdale about six miles east of Winfield. It's located near US Route 160, close to the Tisdale Methodist Church. It is also west of State Highway 15.
Education in Tisdale
The children living in the Tisdale area go to public schools. These schools are part of the Winfield USD 465 public school district. A school district is a local organization that manages and runs public schools in a specific area.
