Titche-Goettinger, later known as Titche's, was a popular department store. It was located in Dallas, Texas, in the USA. The store first opened its doors in 1902. For many years, it was a very important place to shop in Dallas. Later, it joined with another store called Joske's. Eventually, a company named Dillard's took over Joske's.
History of Titche's Department Store

The Titche-Goettinger Department Store began in 1902. It was started by two people, Max Goettinger and Edward Titche. Their first store was on Elm and Murphy streets. Just two years later, in 1904, they moved. They opened a bigger store in the new Wilson Building. This building was between Main and Elm streets.
In 1928, the company started building a brand new store. This new building was also between Main and Elm streets. It was designed to hold many more items. They wanted to sell more clothes and other products.
Before the new building was finished, Titche-Goettinger was sold. A company called Hahn Department Stores bought it in December 1928. Hahn also bought another store, Joske's, in San Antonio, Texas, that same year.
During the Great Depression, many people had less money. This changed who shopped at Titche-Goettinger. It went from serving mostly rich customers to serving middle-income families. The store faced tough competition. Other Dallas stores like Neiman Marcus and Sanger-Harris became more popular.
In 1932, Hahn Department Stores changed its name. It became Allied Stores Corporation. Because of these changes, Titche-Goettinger did not open new stores in other areas for a long time. They focused on their main store in downtown Dallas until the 1960s.
In the 1950s, the department store finally grew. It opened new locations in the suburbs. Around this time, the store's name became shorter. People started calling it simply "Titche's." In 1979, Allied Stores combined Titche's with Joske's. Then, in 1987, Dillard's bought Joske's, including the old Titche's stores.
The Main Titche's Building

The main Titche's store building is in downtown Dallas. It is a very important historical building. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is recognized for its special history. It is also a key part of Dallas's Harwood Historic District and Main Street District.
The main store opened in 1929. It served customers until 1979. The building itself closed in 1987. Today, the old store building has been changed. It now holds loft-style apartments. It also houses the Universities Center at Dallas.
