Tjeraridjal facts for kids
The Tjeraridjal are an Indigenous group from the Goldfields-Esperance area in Western Australia. They are a part of Australia's rich history and culture. Some experts, like Horton, think they might be the same as the Nyanganyatjara people. It's also possible they speak a similar form of the Western Desert Language.
Understanding the Tjeraridjal People's Land
The Tjeraridjal people lived on a large area of land. According to a researcher named Norman Tindale, their traditional lands covered about 14,700 square miles (38,073 square kilometers).
Where Were Their Lands Located?
Their lands stretched across different parts of Western Australia.
- Their western boundary was near places like Kurnalpi.
- It also included areas around Lake Yindarlgooda, Piniin, and Karonie.
- To the east, their land reached close to Naretha. This area is on the edge of the Nullarbor Plain.
- In their own language, their northeastern borders were known as Kapi Kirkela and Tjikarunja.
What Was the Environment Like?
The land of the Tjeraridjal people changed a lot from west to east. Norman Tindale described an important natural change on their eastern border near Naretha. Here, the land changes from forests with mallee and gimlet trees to areas with myall and bulloak trees. This marks the start of the huge, flat, treeless Nullarbor Plain.
