Tobinsport is a small place in Indiana, a state in the United States. It's not a city or town with its own government. Instead, it's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and buildings without a formal local government.
Tobinsport is located right along the Ohio River. It's in Tobin Township, which is part of Perry County. If you look across the river, you'll see Cloverport, Kentucky. Tobinsport is also the very southernmost point of Perry County.
History of Tobinsport
Tobinsport once had its own post office. This post office opened in 1865. It helped people send and receive mail in the area.
The first person in charge of the post office was Robert Tobin. He was called the postmaster. The post office stayed open for many years. However, it closed down in 1891.
Education in the Area
Students living in Tobinsport go to schools managed by the Perry Central Community School Corporation. A "school corporation" is like a school district. It oversees all the public schools in a certain area.
Tobinsport High School
Before 1962, Tobinsport had its very own high school. The students there were known as the Pirates. Their school colors were blue and white.
In 1962, Tobinsport High School joined with other schools. They all became part of a new, bigger school. This new school was named Perry Central High School.
