Toksook Bay (pronounced TOOK-sook or TUCK-sook) is a small city and village. It is located on Nelson Island in Bethel Census Area, Alaska. In 2010, about 590 people lived there. By 2018, the population grew to around 667, making it the biggest village on the island.
The local people call Toksook Bay Tuqsuk Bay in their Yup'ik language. The village was started in 1964 by people from nearby Nightmute. Its original name is Nunakauyaq. Most of the people living here are Alaska Natives from the Nunakauyarmiut group. They get their food by fishing and other traditional activities.

History of Toksook Bay
Toksook Bay was chosen for a special reason in 2020. It was the first place where the 2020 U.S. Census count began. This happened because the village is very remote in the Alaskan Bush. It is important to collect census information early from such distant places. The counting started on January 21, 2020.
Population Changes Over Time
Toksook Bay first appeared on the U.S. Census in 1970. At that time, it was an unincorporated village. It officially became a city in 1972.
The population has grown steadily over the years:

- 1990: 420 people
- 2000: 532 people
- 2010: 590 people
- 2020: 658 people
In 2000, there were 532 people living in Toksook Bay. There were 106 households, which are groups of people living together. Most households (68.9%) had children under 18. The average household had about 5 people.
The population's age range in 2000 showed that 44% were under 18 years old. About 27.4% were between 25 and 44 years old. The average age was 22 years.
Education in Toksook Bay
The Lower Kuskokwim School District runs the local school. It is called Nelson Island School. Students from kindergarten all the way to 12th grade attend this school.
