Tokyo DisneySea facts for kids
Tokyo DisneySea is a fun theme park located in Urayasu, Chiba, near Tokyo. It opened in 2001. It was the second theme park at Tokyo Disney Resort, after Tokyo Disneyland, which opened in 1983. Tokyo DisneySea is also the ninth Disney park in the world.
It is quite large, covering 176 acres (about 71 hectares). This is a bit bigger than Tokyo Disneyland. The park is right next to the sea and has a big lake in its center. Both Tokyo DisneySea and Tokyo Disneyland are owned by The Oriental Land Company. They are the only Disney parks not owned by The Walt Disney Company.

What Makes Tokyo DisneySea Special?
The idea behind Tokyo DisneySea is different from other Disney parks. The Walt Disney Company first planned a water-themed park in California. However, due to money problems from another project, the idea was given to The Oriental Land Company. This company uses Disney characters and themes under a special agreement.
They decided to build DisneySea in Tokyo. In Japan, people often see the sea as very important. Tokyo DisneySea is designed more for older teens and adults. Tokyo Disneyland is more for younger kids. Both parks are great for families. But Tokyo DisneySea has faster and scarier rides. It also has attractions that older visitors might enjoy more.
Exploring the Seven Ports
Tokyo DisneySea is split into seven special areas called "ports." Each port has its own unique theme. These themes come from Disney movies or were created by Disney artists. Six of these ports are arranged around a central area. This central area is also a port, called Mysterious Island.
Instead of a Cinderella Castle, which is common in most Disney parks, Tokyo DisneySea has Mount Prometheus. This is a big volcano in the middle of Mysterious Island. It is the main symbol of Tokyo DisneySea. At the park's entrance, you will see a huge model of the Earth with a water fountain. It is called the DisneySea AquaSphere. It is another important symbol of the park.
Here are the seven themed ports:
- Lost River Delta
- Port Discovery
- Mysterious Island
- Mermaid Lagoon
- Arabian Coast
- Mediterranean Harbor
- American Waterfront
