Toledo is a small city in the Canelones Department of Uruguay. It's part of a larger area that many people call "Toledo," even though the city itself has about 4,400 people. This larger area includes a nearby town called Villa Crespo y San Andrés. Together, these places have over 14,000 residents. They are also part of the bigger Montevideo metropolitan area.
Toledo is also the name of the local government area, or "municipality," that the city belongs to. This municipality includes the city of Toledo, Villa Crespo y San Andrés, and other smaller towns nearby. Toledo's History
Toledo was officially started on November 17, 1889. It began as a small settlement. Later, on May 28, 1928, it was declared a "Pueblo," which means a village. Much later, on October 24, 1995, Toledo was given the status of a "Ciudad," meaning it became a city.
