About Tom Cullen's Early Life
Tom Cullen was born in Aberystwyth, Wales. His parents are both writers. His father is Irish, and his mother is English. Tom spent his early childhood in Llandrindod Wells. When he was 12, his family moved to Cardiff. He went to Llanishen High School there. Tom has two brothers or sisters.
Before becoming an actor, he was interested in music. He studied acting at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He graduated in 2009 with top honors. He also spent a year at the Central School of Speech and Drama.

Acting Roles and Achievements
While still training, Tom Cullen started acting in films. He was in Daddy's Girl, which won a BAFTA Cymru award for Best Film. He also starred in Watch Me, which won a BAFTA Cymru for Best Short Film. BAFTA Cymru awards are for films made in Wales.
Tom has performed in plays on stage. These include Gorgio and Assembly. In 2011, he was named one of Screen International's "Stars of Tomorrow." This list highlights promising new actors.
He starred as Russell in the 2011 movie Weekend. For this role, he won "Most Promising Newcomer" at the British Independent Film Awards. He also won "Best Actor" at the Nashville Film Festival in 2011.
On television, Tom played Jonas in an episode of Black Mirror. He was also Wulfric in the 2012 miniseries World Without End. He had a recurring role as Anthony Gillingham in Downton Abbey. His character was a suitor for Mary Crawley.
More recently, Tom has been in several films. These include Desert Dancer, about an Iranian dancer. He also appeared in the science fiction movie The Last Days on Mars. This film is about the first human mission to Mars.

Writing and Directing Projects
In 2008, Tom Cullen wrote and produced a short film called Naughties. He worked on this with Alexander Vlahos. In 2009, they started a Welsh theater company called Undeb Theatre.
Tom wrote and directed his first full-length play, Kingfisher, in 2010. This play was about a man returning from prison. He also wrote and directed other short plays for Undeb Theatre.
In 2019, Tom made his debut as a film director. He directed the movie Pink Wall. The film stars Tatiana Maslany and Jay Duplass. It tells the story of a couple dealing with life and their dreams.
