Thomas Evans (born June 5, 1947 – died November 19, 1983) was an English musician. He is best known as the bassist for the band Badfinger. He also helped write their famous 1970 song "Without You." Over 180 artists have recorded this song. Some of the most famous versions are by Harry Nilsson and Mariah Carey. Evans passed away in 1983.

Badfinger's Journey

In November 1969, a band called the Iveys changed their name to Badfinger. Paul McCartney from The Beatles helped them a lot. He gave them his song "Come and Get It." McCartney also produced the song for the band.

This song was featured in the movie The Magic Christian. The movie starred Ringo Starr and Peter Sellers. Paul McCartney chose Tom Evans to sing the main part on this song. It became a Top 10 hit around the world.

Badfinger had more big hits in the early 1970s. These included "No Matter What", "Day After Day", and "Baby Blue". Tom Evans sang background harmonies and sometimes shared the lead vocals on these songs.

One of Evans's biggest achievements was writing "Without You". He wrote it with his bandmate Pete Ham. This song became a number one hit worldwide for Harry Nilsson. It is now a very well-known song in music.

Badfinger broke up in 1975. After that, Evans joined a group called the Dodgers. He later briefly left music.

Evans returned to music in 1977. He joined Joey Molland for two Badfinger "comeback" albums. The first album was Airwaves. Its first song was "Lost Inside Your Love," written by Evans. The second album, Say No More, had the song "Hold On." This song reached No. 56 on the Billboard chart in 1981.

After these albums, Evans and Molland formed their own Badfinger touring bands. In 1982, Bob Jackson joined Evans's version of Badfinger. Original drummer Mike Gibbins also joined for one tour. However, the band faced difficulties and legal problems while touring in the US.

Personal Life

Tom Evans was married to Marianne Evans. They had a son named Stephen.
