Tom Schaar (born September 14, 1999) is an American professional skateboarder. He made history by being the first skateboarder to land a "1080" trick. This trick involves spinning three full times in the air. He also became the youngest X Games gold medalist ever. This happened after he landed the first 1080 in a competition at the 2012 Asia X Games in Shanghai. In 2020, Forbes Magazine recognized him in their "30 Under 30 Sports" list. Tom Schaar won a silver medal in the men's park skateboarding event at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Tom Schaar's Skateboarding Journey

Tom Schaar holds many "youngest ever" titles in skateboarding. He is the youngest X Games gold medalist. He is also the youngest champion of the Dew Tour and the Vans Pool Party. He was also the youngest to win a "Big Air" gold medal at the Austin X Games. Before he turned 18, Tom had already won nine X Games medals. On March 20, 2019, Tom Schaar was chosen for the first-ever U.S.A Skateboarding National Team.

Amazing Tricks and Records

In October 2011, Tom Schaar achieved a major milestone. He became the eighth person in history to successfully land a 900 on a skateboard. This trick involves spinning two and a half times in the air.

In September 2016, Tom made history again. He became the first person ever to land a "Stalefish 900" on a skateboard. This trick combines a specific grab with the 900-degree spin.

The Famous 1080 Trick

The "1080" trick was once called the "Holy Grail of skateboarding tricks." This meant it was considered almost impossible to do. In 2006, famous skateboarder and snowboarder Shaun White tried to land the 1080 many times. He tried 21 times at the X Games that year and 29 times the year before, but he didn't succeed. Young Tom Schaar, only 6 years old at the time, watched White's attempts from the audience.

In March 2012, when Tom was just 12 years old, he successfully landed the first-ever 1080 on a skateboard. He did it after trying four times. Tom told ESPN that it was the hardest trick he had ever done, but it felt easier than he expected. He performed this amazing feat on a special large ramp called a mega ramp.

At the Asian X Games, Tom won the skate Mini Mega event by landing the 1080. This made him the first person to land a 1080 in a competition. He also became the youngest person ever to win an X Games gold medal, all at the age of 12.
