Story of the Movie
Tom and Jerry are always chasing each other. One day, they are looking for food. Jerry runs into a group of kids going to Bill's Candy Shop. The shop owner gives the children free candy. Tom and Jerry continue their silly chase inside the shop.
A kind paperboy named Charlie Bucket stops Tom from catching Jerry. He offers them some bread, and they become friends. Charlie then rushes home to his family. Tom and Jerry sneakily take a box of Wonka Bars from the shop. But Charlie tells them that stealing is wrong. They agree to return the candy.
Charlie's Grandpa Joe tells him about the famous Willy Wonka and his chocolate factory. Wonka had closed his factory because other candy makers were stealing his secret recipes. Then, Wonka started selling candy again, but no one knew who was working in his factory.
The Golden Tickets
The next day, Wonka announces a big contest! He hid five "Golden Tickets" inside Wonka Bars. The lucky finders will get a tour of his amazing factory. They will also receive a lifetime supply of chocolate!
Four tickets are quickly found. Augustus Gloop, a boy who loves to eat, finds one. Veruca Salt, a very spoiled girl, finds another. Violet Beauregarde, a girl who chews gum all the time, finds a third. And Mike Teavee, a boy obsessed with TV, finds the fourth. Each time a winner is announced, a mysterious man whispers to them.
Charlie buys a Wonka Bar but doesn't find a ticket. He starts to lose hope. Then, the news says the fifth ticket was found by a rich man named Alberto Minoleta. Tom and Jerry find a dollar coin. They fight over it and lose it in a gutter. Charlie finds the coin and uses it to buy one more Wonka Bar for Grandpa Joe.
Charlie's Big Chance
Suddenly, the news reports that Minoleta's ticket was fake! When Charlie opens his Wonka Bar, he finds the real fifth Golden Ticket! On his way home, the same mysterious man stops him. He says his name is Slugworth. He offers Charlie money for a sample of Wonka's new candy, the Everlasting Gobstopper.
Charlie rushes home with the Golden Ticket. He chooses Grandpa Joe to go with him to the factory. The next day, Tom and Jerry realize Grandpa Joe forgot the ticket! They quickly grab it and race to the factory.
Inside the Chocolate Factory
Once inside, the movie follows the original story. Tom and Jerry are there too, having their own adventures. They interact with the factory and the other kids.
Eventually, only Charlie and Grandpa Joe are left on the tour. Wonka seems upset and tells them they won't get the promised chocolate. A small Oompa-Loompa intern named Tuffy warns Charlie. He says Slugworth and Spike have stolen a Gobstopper!
After a chase in the Wonkavision Room, Charlie stops Slugworth. Charlie and Grandpa Joe then talk to Wonka. Wonka explains that they broke the rules by taking "Fizzy Lifting Drinks." He also says they shouldn't have brought Tom and Jerry into the factory. So, they would get nothing.
The Big Reveal
Grandpa Joe gets angry, but Wonka demands they leave. Grandpa Joe suggests Charlie should give the Gobstopper to Slugworth. But Charlie does the right thing and gives the candy back to Wonka.
Because Charlie was honest, Wonka declares him the winner! Wonka then reveals that "Slugworth" is actually "Mr. Wilkinson," one of his employees. The offer to buy the Gobstopper was a test of honesty. Only Charlie passed this test.
Charlie, Grandpa Joe, and Tuffy (who is now a real Oompa-Loompa) get into the "Wonkavator." This is a special glass elevator that can fly! Tom and Jerry use Fizzy Lifting Drinks to shrink Wilkinson and Spike. Then, they catch up with the others in the Wonkavator.
Flying over the city, Wonka tells Charlie his real prize: the entire factory! Wonka created the contest to find someone worthy to take over. Charlie and his family, including Tom and Jerry, can move into the factory right away!
