Tommy Donbavand (born November 28, 1967 – died May 14, 2019) was a super creative English writer. He was also an actor and a teacher. Tommy was famous for his exciting books and comics for kids. He came from Liverpool, England. You might know his popular series, Scream Street. Sometimes, he used different names, called pseudonyms, for his writing.

Tommy's Early Life and Work

Tommy Donbavand had many different jobs before becoming a full-time writer. He worked as a clown, making people laugh. He was also an entertainer at holiday camps. He even performed in a big show called Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story in London's West End.

Besides performing, Tommy loved to teach. He taught acting and writing classes. He also wrote, produced, and directed many plays for the theatre. He even wrote a series of helpful non-fiction books. These books were called Quick Fixes for Bored Kids.

Writing Adventures

Tommy Donbavand started writing for children in 2006. He wrote for a book series called Too Ghoul For School. For these books, he used the pen name B. Strange.

Scream Street Series

His work on Too Ghoul For School led to his own amazing series. This was the Scream Street series. Walker Books published the first book in October 2008. It was called Scream Street: Fang of the Vampire. There were thirteen books in this spooky series.

In 2015, Scream Street became an animated TV show. Coolabi Productions made the show. It started airing on CBBC. A second season of the show was announced in 2020.

Doctor Who and Other Books

In April 2013, Tommy wrote a Doctor Who novel. It was called Shroud of Sorrow. This book featured the Eleventh Doctor and his companion, Clara Oswald. BBC Books published it.

Tommy also helped write a science fiction series. It was called Shadow Vanguard. For these books, he used another pen name, Tom Dublin.

He wrote another fun children's series too. This one was called Fangs, Vampire Spy.

Writing for Comics

Tommy Donbavand also wrote for The Beano comic. He started by writing strips for characters like Calamity James, Gnasher and Gnipper, and The Bash Street Kids. After six months, he became the main writer for The Bash Street Kids. He also worked on the Badger Graphic Novels. These books were designed to help kids who found reading a bit harder.

Tommy's Later Work and Legacy

In July 2020, a short audio play by Tommy was released. It was called What Lurks Down Under. This play was part of Time Apart. It featured Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor. Big Finish Productions released it after Tommy had passed away. Tommy Donbavand left behind many wonderful stories for children to enjoy.
