Tomohiko Ikeuchi (born November 1, 1977) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a defender during his career. He is known for playing with top Japanese clubs like Kashima Antlers and Consadole Sapporo.

Football Journey

Tomohiko Ikeuchi was born in Tobetsu, Hokkaido, Japan, on November 1, 1977. After finishing high school, he started his professional football career. He joined Kashima Antlers, a club in Japan's top league, the J1 League, in 1996.

Early Career and Loans

From 1996 to 1998, Tomohiko Ikeuchi was part of the Kashima Antlers team. However, he did not play in any official matches during these years. To gain more experience, he was loaned to Consadole Sapporo in 1999. This club was in the J2 League, which is Japan's second-highest football division.

During his time at Consadole Sapporo, he played for two seasons. He often played as a defensive midfielder or a side back. A defensive midfielder helps protect the defense, while a side back plays on the sides of the field. In 2000, his team, Consadole Sapporo, won the J2 League championship.

Return to J1 League

In 2001, Tomohiko Ikeuchi went back to Kashima Antlers. He played as a center back, which is a key defensive position in the middle of the field. His team had a very successful period. They won the J1 League championship in 2001. They also won the 2002 J.League Cup in 2002.

Even with these wins, Tomohiko Ikeuchi found it harder to get playing time in 2004. Younger players like Seiji Kaneko and Daiki Iwamasa were getting more opportunities.

Back to Consadole Sapporo

In 2005, Tomohiko Ikeuchi decided to move back to Consadole Sapporo. The club was still in the J2 League at that time. He quickly became a regular player for the team. He often played as a left back in a "three-back defense" system. This means there were three defenders across the back of the field.

In 2007, he played as a side back in a "four-back defense" system. This system uses four defenders. That year, Consadole Sapporo won the J2 League championship again. This win meant they were promoted back to the J1 League for the 2008 season.

Tomohiko Ikeuchi continued to play regularly for Consadole Sapporo in the J1 League in 2008. After a long and successful career, he decided to retire from professional football at the end of the 2008 season. Throughout his career, he played a total of 163 league matches and scored 21 goals.
