Tong Binggang was born in a town called Yangshe, in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu, China. This was on September 28, 1927.
In 1946, he started studying at National Central University. He focused on mechanics, which is about how things move and the forces that make them move.
Later, in 1953, he earned a master's degree in mechanics. He got this from the Harbin Institute of Technology. After finishing his studies, he started teaching at that same university.
In 1961, he moved to the University of Science and Technology of China. He continued his work there. In 1981, he became a full professor. This means he was a very respected teacher and researcher.
Tong Binggang passed away in Beijing, China, on July 9, 2020.
