Anthony Bruce Brewer (born November 25, 1957) is a former American baseball player. He was an outfielder, which means he played in the outfield area of the baseball field. Tony played in two major baseball leagues: Major League Baseball (MLB) in the U.S. and Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) in Japan.
Early Life and Sports
Tony Brewer grew up playing many sports. When he was in high school at Palo Alto Senior High School, he played football, baseball, and even wrestled! He was a very good wrestler and made it to the state tournament in California. After high school, Tony continued to play college baseball for the Miami Hurricanes team.
Joining Professional Baseball
Even though Tony wasn't chosen in the main MLB draft, the Los Angeles Dodgers signed him as a free agent in 1979. He started playing in Minor League Baseball for different Dodger teams. By 1982, he had reached the Triple-A level, which is just one step below the major leagues.
In 1984, Tony Brewer played in 24 games for the Dodgers in Major League Baseball. He had a batting average of .108. This means he got 4 hits out of 37 chances. He hit one home run in MLB, and it happened in his very last turn at bat in a major league game! Tony's brother, Mike Brewer, also played in MLB.
Playing Baseball in Japan
After his time in Major League Baseball, Tony Brewer moved to Japan. He had a very successful career there with the Nippon-Ham Fighters team. He played for four seasons in Japan. During that time, he had a high batting average of .307. He also hit 99 home runs and helped his team score 302 runs.
