Tony Brewer's Baseball Journey
Early Life and Sports
Tony Brewer grew up in the United States. He went to Palo Alto Senior High School. There, he was a talented athlete. He played football, baseball, and even wrestled! He was so good at wrestling that he made it to the state tournament in California. After high school, he played college baseball for the Miami Hurricanes.
Playing in Major League Baseball
Tony Brewer was not chosen by an MLB team in the special player draft. But he still got a chance to play! The Los Angeles Dodgers signed him as a free agent in October 1979. This means he could sign with any team he wanted.
He spent several years playing for smaller teams, called minor league teams. These teams help players get ready for the big leagues. He reached the Triple-A level, which is just one step below MLB, in 1982.
In 1984, Tony Brewer finally made it to the Major Leagues! He played in 24 games for the Dodgers. He had a batting average of .108. This means he got 4 hits out of 37 times he tried to hit the ball. He hit one home run in MLB. What's cool is that he hit this home run in his very last time at bat in a Major League game! Tony's brother, Mike Brewer, also played in MLB.
Success in Japan
After his time in MLB, Tony Brewer went to play baseball in Japan. He had a very successful career there with the Nippon-Ham Fighters. He played for four seasons and was a great hitter. He had a batting average of .307, which is very good! He also hit 99 home runs during his time in Japan.
