Anthony William Brown (born July 29, 1960) is an American professional basketball coach and former player. He played in the NBA and also played basketball in other countries. Before turning professional, he played college basketball for the Arkansas Razorbacks. Brown was also the temporary head coach for the Brooklyn Nets in 2016.

Playing Career Highlights
Tony Brown was chosen by the New Jersey Nets in the 1982 NBA draft. He was the 82nd player picked overall. During his playing career, he played for nine different NBA teams over seven seasons. He also played in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) and in Italy for a team called Reggio Emilia from 1992 to 1994. In 1983, Brown was recognized for his strong defense and was named to the CBA All-Defensive Second Team.
Coaching Journey
After he stopped playing basketball, Tony Brown continued his career in the sport. From 1994 to 1997, he worked for the Milwaukee Bucks. His job was to scout new players from colleges and other teams.
Assistant Coach Roles
Brown then became an assistant coach for several NBA teams:
- He worked for the Portland Trail Blazers from 1997 to 2001.
- He joined the Detroit Pistons from 2001 to 2003.
- He was with the Toronto Raptors from 2003 to 2004.
On May 19, 2004, the Boston Celtics hired Brown as an assistant coach. He was known for helping with the team's defense. On March 19, 2006, Brown even filled in as head coach for one game when the main coach, Doc Rivers, was away. The Celtics won that game against the Indiana Pacers.
Brown went back to the Milwaukee Bucks as an assistant coach for the 2007–08 season. He also stepped in as head coach for one game on November 6, 2007, and the Bucks won.
In 2009, the Los Angeles Clippers hired Brown as an assistant. He again filled in as head coach for a game on December 31, 2009, and the Clippers won against the Philadelphia 76ers.
On December 7, 2011, Brown became an assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks. This was his second time working with coach Rick Carlisle.
Interim Head Coach for Brooklyn Nets
For the 2014–15 season, Brown joined the Brooklyn Nets as an assistant coach. In 2016, he became the interim head coach after the previous coach was let go. He coached the team for the rest of that season. On April 18, 2016, a new head coach, Kenny Atkinson, was hired for the Nets, and Brown's time as interim coach ended. After that, he worked as an assistant coach for the Washington Wizards until 2020.
