Anthony Jerald Dorsey, also known as Tony Dorsey, is a former professional basketball player. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States, on July 15, 1970. Tony is quite tall, standing at 6 feet 7 inches (2.01 meters). He weighed about 220 pounds (100 kg) during his playing career.
He played in two main positions in basketball:
- Power Forward: This player often scores points close to the basket and grabs rebounds.
- Center: This player is usually the tallest on the team. They play near the basket, blocking shots and scoring.
Tony Dorsey was also named the best scorer in the French League in 2002.

Tony Dorsey's College Basketball Journey
Tony Dorsey played college basketball at the University of North Alabama. He was part of their team, the North Alabama Lions. During his time there, he helped his team win a big championship. They won the NCAA Men's Division II Basketball Championship in the 1990–91 season. This was a major achievement for his college team.
Tony Dorsey's Professional Basketball Career
Tony Dorsey started his professional basketball career in 1994. He played for teams in different countries. He played in the Dominican Republic and for a team in his hometown, the Atlanta Trojans.
Playing in the UK: Birmingham Bullets
In 1994, Tony moved to the United Kingdom to play for the Birmingham Bullets. This was the start of his long and successful time playing basketball in Britain.
- First Season (1994–1995): Tony played 24 games for the Bullets. He scored an average of 21.8 points per game. This means he scored a total of 525 points in his first year.
- Second Season (1995–1996): He got even better! Tony scored an amazing 1008 points in 36 games. This was an average of 28 points per game. It was one of the highest scores in the British Basketball League (BBL) in 12 years. Because of his great performance, he won the BBL Player of the Year award. He was also chosen for the All-Star team. The Bullets also won the Championship final that season.
Moving to Other UK Teams
After his time with the Birmingham Bullets, Tony joined the Manchester Giants in 1998. With the Giants, he won several titles in just two seasons. These included the Championship, the Trophy, and the Play-off titles.
Later, on November 17, 2006, Tony signed with the Newcastle Eagles. This marked his return to the British Basketball League. He played his first game for the Eagles on November 19, 2006. In that game, he scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
After one season with the Newcastle Eagles, Tony joined the Guildford Heat on August 1, 2007. He played for them for one season. During this time, the Heat also played in a European competition called the EuroCup.
In 2008, Tony Dorsey moved to the Everton Tigers. He joined them along with his teammate James Jones from the Guildford Heat.
Tony Dorsey's National Team Experience
Tony Dorsey became a British citizen. This allowed him to play for the England men's national basketball team. He played in 15 games for the national team. In these games, he scored a total of 193 points.
