Antony Morgan "Tony" Madigan (born 4 February 1930 – died 29 October 2017) was an Australian boxer and rugby player. He was a very successful athlete.
Tony competed in boxing at the Olympic Games three times. He took part in the 1952, 1956, and 1960 Olympics. In 1960, he won a bronze medal. He famously lost his semi-final match to Muhammad Ali, who was known as Cassius Clay at the time. Tony also won medals at three Commonwealth Games. He earned a silver medal in 1954 and gold medals in 1958 and 1962. These wins were all in the light-heavyweight boxing division.
In 2010, Tony Madigan was added to the Australian National Boxing Hall of Fame. This was a special honor for his long career.

Tony Madigan's Life Story
Tony Madigan's father, Kendall Morgan Madigan, was a doctor. His mother, Elsie Maud Loydstrom, was a dentist. Tony also had a younger brother named Mark. His father passed away in 1938.
Tony grew up in Bathurst and Maitland, Australia. Later, his mother moved to Sydney for her work as a dentist.
Tony went to Waverley College in Sydney. There, he learned boxing from Hughie Dwyer, a famous Australian champion. He also practiced with top professional boxers. In the 1950s, Tony spent time in the United States. He was coached by Cus D'Amato, a very well-known boxing trainer. After coming back to Australia, he worked selling cars.
In 1955, Tony was in a serious car accident in Bavaria, Germany. He was injured in the crash.
Tony married Sybille, a German psychotherapist, in November 1960. Their son, Kendall Morgan Madigan, was born in August 1961. Tony also had a daughter named Elizabeth Phy Collins, who was born in New York City in 1960.
In the mid-1960s, Tony worked in London. He sold property and had a successful career as a model. Later, he moved to New York City. He continued modeling there with a famous photographer named Howard Zieff.
Tony Madigan's Rugby Career
Besides boxing, Tony Madigan was also a talented rugby player. He played rugby union for several clubs in Australia. These included the Randwick Rugby Club and the Eastern Suburbs Rugby Club.
Outside Australia, he played for Harlequins Rugby in London in 1953. He also played for the Westchester Rugby Club in New York from 1960 to 1962. In 1960, he played for the United States Eastern Rugby Union team. They played against the Quebec Province team in Montreal. Tony usually played as a flyhalf for the Westchester Rugby Club.
