Tony McQuay is an American track and field star. He was born on April 16, 1990. Tony is best known for running the 400 meters race. He has won many medals for the United States. These include a silver medal at the 2012 Olympics and a gold medal at the 2016 Olympics. Both were for the 4 × 400 meter relay race. He has also won two World Championships.

Early Life and High School Sports

Tony McQuay grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida. He went to Suncoast Community High School. There, he was a talented athlete. Tony ran for the Suncoast Chargers track and field team. He competed in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 400 meters races.

As a senior, he won the state championship in the 400 meters. Tony also played high school football for the Chargers. He was recognized as a top player on the team.

College Track and Field Career

After high school, Tony McQuay attended the University of Florida. He joined the Florida Gators track and field team. His coach was Mike Holloway. Tony competed in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

Tony was very successful in the 400 meters. He won the NCAA indoor championship twice, in 2011 and 2012. He also won the NCAA outdoor championship in 2012. Tony was a two-time champion in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) outdoors. In 2011, he won the 400 meters at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He beat famous runners like Jeremy Wariner.

Olympic and World Championship Success

Tony McQuay has represented the United States in many major competitions. He has won several medals for his country.

2012 London Olympics

Tony qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England. He finished second in the 400 meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials. In London, he ran in the 400 meters individual race. He made it to the semi-finals but did not reach the final.

Tony also ran in the 4 × 400 meter relay. He ran the third part of the race. His team won a silver medal, finishing second to the Bahamas.

2013 World Championships

In 2013, Tony McQuay competed at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Moscow, Russia. He earned a silver medal in the 400 meters. He set his personal best time of 44.40 seconds in this race. Tony was also part of the U.S. 4 × 400 meters relay team. This team won the gold medal at the championships.

2015 World Championships

Tony continued his success at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics in Beijing. He was part of the U.S. team that won another gold medal in the 4 × 400 meter relay.

2016 Rio Olympics

Tony McQuay was a member of the U.S. 4 × 400 meters relay team at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The team qualified for the finals with a fast time. In the final race, the United States team became Olympic champions. They finished with a time of 2:57.30. Jamaica came in second, and the Bahamas were third. This gold medal was Tony's second Olympic medal.

2017 World Championships

Tony McQuay and the United States team competed at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics in London. They finished in second place, earning a silver medal in the 4 × 400 meters relay.
