Tony McQuay (born April 16, 1990) is an American track and field athlete. He is known for running in the 400 meters race. Tony has been part of the United States Olympic team twice. He won a silver medal in the 4 × 400 meter relay at the 2012 London Olympics. Four years later, he earned a gold medal in the same event at the 2016 Rio Olympics. He has also won two World Championship titles in the 4 × 400 meter relay.

Early Life and High School Sports
Tony McQuay was born in West Palm Beach, Florida. He grew up loving sports. Tony went to Suncoast Community High School in Riviera Beach, Florida. There, he was a star athlete for the Suncoast Chargers.
He ran in several track events, including the 100, 200, and 400 meters. In his final year of high school, he won the state championship in the 400 meters. Tony also played high school football for the Chargers. He was recognized as an excellent wide receiver and defensive back.
College Track Career
After high school, Tony went to the University of Florida in Gainesville. He joined the Florida Gators track and field team. This team competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
Tony became a very successful college athlete. He won the NCAA indoor championship in the 400 meters twice, in 2011 and 2012. He also won the outdoor championship in 2012. He was a two-time champion in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) outdoor events. In 2011, he won the 400 meters at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He beat famous runners like Jeremy Wariner and Greg Nixon.
Olympic Journey and World Championships
Tony McQuay has represented the United States in many major competitions. He has won multiple medals, showing his skill and speed.
2012 London Olympics
Tony earned his spot on the U.S. Olympic team in 2012. He finished second in the 400 meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials. This allowed him to compete in both the 400 meters and the 4x400 relay at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England.
In the individual 400 meters, he made it to the semi-finals. For the 4 × 400 meter relay, Tony ran the third part of the race. His team won a silver medal, finishing just behind the team from the Bahamas.
2013 World Championships
In 2013, Tony McQuay competed at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Moscow, Russia. He had a great performance in the 400 meters. He finished second, setting a new personal best time of 44.40 seconds. Tony was also part of the U.S. 4 × 400 meter relay team. This team won the gold medal at the championships.
2015 World Championships
Tony continued his success at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics in Beijing. He was a key member of the U.S. 4 × 400 meter relay team. The team once again won the gold medal, showing their dominance in the event.
2016 Rio Olympics
Tony McQuay returned to the Olympics in 2016, held in Rio de Janeiro. He was part of the U.S. 4 × 400 meter relay team. The team qualified for the finals with the second-fastest time.
In the final race, the United States team became Olympic champions. They finished with a time of 2:57.30. Jamaica came in second, and the Bahamas finished third. This gold medal was Tony's second Olympic medal.
2017 World Championships
Tony McQuay also competed at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics in London. He was part of the United States 4 × 400 meter relay team. The team performed well, earning a silver medal in the event.
