Torae Liston Carr (born March 18, 1983), also known simply as Torae, is an American rapper. He grew up in the Coney Island area of Brooklyn, New York. Torae has created many music projects on his own and with other artists. He also runs his own music company called Internal Affairs Entertainment.
Torae's Music Journey
Torae became well-known by working with famous music producers like DJ Premier and Marco Polo. In 2008, he released his first mixtape, Daily Conversation. A mixtape is like an album, but often released for free or promotion.
After that, he and Marco Polo released an album together called Double Barrel. This album received great reviews from music critics. In 2007, a hip hop website called HipHopDX featured him as a rising star. The magazine XXL also recognized him that same year.
Torae has worked with many other producers, including Eric G., Black Milk, and Khrysis. He often teams up with other rappers from Brooklyn, like Skyzoo and Sha Stimuli. He has also collaborated with artists such as Tash of Tha Alkaholiks, Sean Price, Masta Ace, Wale, and Talib Kweli.
His first official studio album, For the Record, came out on November 1, 2011. This album featured music produced by legendary artists like Pete Rock, Large Professor, DJ Premier, and the award-winning 9th Wonder.
The next year, he released a shorter album called an EP, titled Off the Record. This EP included eight songs that he recorded while making his first album. On May 27, 2014, Torae and fellow Brooklyn rapper Skyzoo released their joint album, Barrel Brothers.
