Gustav Torgny Lindgren (born June 16, 1938 – died March 16, 2017) was a famous writer from Sweden. He wrote many books that were enjoyed by people all over the world.

Torgny Lindgren was born in a place called Raggsjö, Sweden. His parents were Andreas Lindgren and Helga Björk.

He went to school in Umeå to become a teacher. After finishing his studies, he worked as a teacher for many years, until the mid-1970s.

For a while, he was also involved in local politics. He was a politician for the Swedish Social Democratic Party. This party works to make life better for people in Sweden.

In the 1980s, Lindgren became a member of the Catholic Church. He passed away in Stockholm, Sweden, on March 16, 2017. He was 78 years old.

His Writing Career

Torgny Lindgren started his writing journey as a poet in 1965. Poets write poems, which are a special kind of literature.

His big breakthrough came in 1982 with his novel called The Way of a Serpent. A novel is a long story, usually in a book. This book made him very well-known.

Lindgren's books were so popular that they were translated into more than 30 different languages. This means people from many countries could read his stories. He became one of Sweden's most successful writers around the world.
