History of Torrijos
In 1085, a Christian army took control of Torrijos. This happened on their way to Toledo. The town then became a realengo, which means it was directly owned by the king, Alfonso VI.
Torrijos was later given to the archbishop of Toledo in 1214. This was a reward for his help in the Battle of Navas de Tolosa. After this, Torrijos became part of the lands controlled by the Church in Toledo.
The town had a notable Jewish community. This community faced difficulties during a time of unrest in 1391. In 1450, an army from Toledo attacked Torrijos. This happened during city revolts in Toledo.
In 1482, Torrijos was bought from the Church. It then became part of the Estate of Maqueda. At this time, it also officially became known as a town.
