What is Mudéjar Style?
The Mudéjar style is a special type of art and building design. It was created in Spain by Muslim craftspeople. They used their traditional skills to build things for Christian rulers. This style mixes Islamic and Christian art. You can see it in the detailed brickwork, colorful tiles, and fancy patterns.
History of the Tower
People believe the Tower of El Salvador was built in the early 1300s. It was likely finished around 1315 or 1316. This tower looks a lot like the San Martín Tower in the same city. But the El Salvador Tower has more detailed decorations. This makes experts think it was built a little later than the San Martín Tower.
Where is the Tower?
The tower stands tall among other buildings on Calle de El Salvador. It is connected to the Church of El Salvador. The original church building was very old and fell down in 1677. A new church was built later. The tower is also very close to an old city gate called the Portal of Guadalaviar.
Visiting the Tower
Today, the inside of the tower is home to the Centro de Interpretación del Mudéjar. This is a special center where you can learn all about the Mudéjar style. It's a great place to visit because it lets you see the inside of an old Mudéjar tower. You can watch videos and see exhibits that explain how these amazing buildings were made. You can also learn why they are so common in the Aragon region of Spain.
