Town Center at Cobb, often called Town Center Mall, is a large shopping mall in Cobb County, Georgia, near Atlanta. It's a popular place for shopping and hanging out. The mall has several big stores, known as anchor stores. These include two Macy's locations, JCPenney, and Belk.

Mall History: A Look Back

Town Center Mall first opened its doors in February 1986. When it started, the main stores were Rich's, Macy's, and Sears. At the time, it was the biggest mall in Georgia! Later in 1986, another big store called Mervyn's joined the mall.

Growing Bigger and Better

Town Center is located in a busy shopping area in northern Cobb County, Georgia. It's easy to get to, being close to major highways like I-75 and I-575.

In 1992, the mall grew even more. A new section was added, bringing in a department store called Parisian. This made Town Center one of the few malls in the area with five main anchor stores. This was a big deal back then!

Changes Over the Years

The mall was very popular and attracted many shoppers. It had its first big update in 1995. Over time, some of the main stores changed.

  • In 1997, JCPenney took over the spot where Mervyn's used to be.
  • Later, Rich's and Macy's became one company. This led to the original Macy's store closing. However, part of that building was turned into a Macy's Furniture Gallery and a Macy's Men's Store. Macy's now operates from the former Rich's location.

Even with new shopping centers opening nearby, Town Center Mall stayed busy. In 2008, the mall started a year-long makeover. This project finished in 2009. It brought new designs to the food court, added family restrooms, and created a fun play area for kids. In 2017, Macy's added a "Macy's Backstage" section inside its store.

A big change happened in 2020 when Sears closed its store at the mall. This was part of a plan to close many Sears stores across the country.

Recent Ownership Changes

In 2012, a bank called Deutsche Bank gave the mall a large loan. However, in 2021, the mall went up for auction because the loan could not be paid back. No one bought it, so Deutsche Bank took ownership of the mall.
