History of the Littleton Town Hall
The building was first built in 1920. It was designed by a Colorado architect named Jacques Benedict. The goal was to create a new place for important town activities.
Building Design and Features
The building has an Italianate style. This style was inspired by old buildings in Italy. One example is the Palazzo della Ragione in Vicenza, Italy.
Inside, the original Town Hall had several important rooms. It held the treasurer's office and council chambers. There were also rooms for fire trucks and hoses. A large auditorium was located on the second floor.
The building also has some American touches. You can see an eagle above the second-story windows. The Colorado state flower, the Columbine, is also part of the design.
Changes Over Time
Starting in the 1950s, the building's layout changed. More offices were added inside. In 1972, the Town Hall was one of the first buildings to be protected by a special rule. This rule helps save historic places.
The City of Littleton moved into a new office building in 1977. After that, people worked hard to raise money. They wanted to turn the old Town Hall into a new center. In 1983, it opened as a performing arts center and art gallery.
