The Town Hall Arts Center is a special place in downtown Littleton, Colorado. It used to be called the Littleton Town Hall. For more than 30 years, it has been a professional theater where people can watch fun comedies, exciting musicals, and interesting plays. This building became a National Register of Historic Places on September 4, 1980. This means it is an important historical site.

History of the Littleton Town Hall

The building was first built in 1920. It was designed by a Colorado architect named Jacques Benedict. The goal was to create a new place for important town activities.

Building Design and Features

The building has an Italianate style. This style was inspired by old buildings in Italy. One example is the Palazzo della Ragione in Vicenza, Italy.

Inside, the original Town Hall had several important rooms. It held the treasurer's office and council chambers. There were also rooms for fire trucks and hoses. A large auditorium was located on the second floor.

The building also has some American touches. You can see an eagle above the second-story windows. The Colorado state flower, the Columbine, is also part of the design.

Changes Over Time

Starting in the 1950s, the building's layout changed. More offices were added inside. In 1972, the Town Hall was one of the first buildings to be protected by a special rule. This rule helps save historic places.

The City of Littleton moved into a new office building in 1977. After that, people worked hard to raise money. They wanted to turn the old Town Hall into a new center. In 1983, it opened as a performing arts center and art gallery.

Town Hall Arts Center Today

Today, the Town Hall Arts Center is a busy place. It is a live theater, a cultural center, and an art gallery.

Shows and Performances

Each year, from September to June, the center puts on many shows. They usually have six main stage musicals or comedies. They also host seven to eight concerts.

Programs for Young People

The theater has a special program for children. They produce two shows each year. These shows feature professional actors.

Classes are also available for students. Kids aged seven to seventeen can learn about stage craft. They can also take classes in acting and creative dramatics. These classes help young people explore their talents.
