About Tracy Harris
Tracy Harris was born in 1958 in Lawton, Oklahoma. She spent her early childhood, until age 10, in Dallas, Texas. Her parents are Janene Harris and Hayes Harris, who was an architect. After she turned 10, her family moved often. This was because her father worked as an architect for the United States Army and Air Force. They lived in many different places, including Honolulu, Guam, Manila, and Thailand.
Education and Early Career
Tracy Harris went to Southern Methodist University. She earned two degrees there, a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in 1983. After finishing college, she worked at the Dallas Museum of Art. She also taught painting classes there, sharing her artistic skills with others.
Her Art and Style
Tracy Harris is known for her abstract paintings. Abstract art does not show things exactly as they look in real life. Instead, it uses shapes, colors, and lines to create feelings or ideas.
She often uses a special method called encaustic painting. This technique involves mixing heated beeswax with colored pigments. The artist then applies this warm mixture to a surface, like wood. When the wax cools, it creates a unique texture and look.
Marriage and Later Life
While working at the Dallas Museum of Art, Tracy Harris met the famous artist Dan Flavin. They were introduced by a friend and started as pen pals, writing letters to each other. Later, they began a long-distance relationship.
Tracy Harris and Dan Flavin got married in 1992. Their wedding took place at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City. After they married, Harris lived in different places, including Long Island, New York, and Greenwich, Connecticut. Dan Flavin passed away four years later.
