Tranqueras is a city located in the Rivera Department in the northeast part of Uruguay. It's a lively place with a rich history and a growing population.

Where is Tranqueras?
Tranqueras is found on Route 30. It's about 53 kilometers (around 33 miles) south-southwest of Rivera. Rivera is the main city and capital of the department. You can get there by taking Routes 5 and 30.
A Look at Tranqueras' History
For a long time, in the early 1800s, this area was known as Paso de Tranqueras. This name came from a bridge over the Tacuarembó Grande river.
In 1890, a French person named Marcos Bourré gave some land to the government. This land was used to build a railway station. When the railway arrived, it helped the village grow quickly. Soon, there were hotels, stores, and small businesses.
- On July 22, 1914, Tranqueras was officially called a "Pueblo" (which means village). This was made official by a law called Ley Nº 5.107.
- Later, on October 15, 1963, it became a "Villa" (a larger town). This change happened with Ley Nº 13.167.
- Finally, on December 13, 1994, Tranqueras was given the title of "Ciudad" (city). This was thanks to Ley Nº 16.667.
