Travis Dodd (born 6 January 1980) is an Australian football (soccer) coach and former player. He used to play as an attacking midfielder, winger, or striker. He is famous for being the first Indigenous Australian to score a goal for the Australian national team.

Travis Dodd's Playing Career

Travis Dodd started his football journey in Elizabeth, South Australia. In 1996, he joined the South Australian Sports Institute. He became one of the youngest players ever for Adelaide City in the National Soccer League (NSL).

He also made history in the NSL by scoring three goals in one game after coming on as a substitute. This is called a "hat-trick."

Playing Overseas

After the 2003–04 NSL season, Travis moved to play football in other countries. He first played for a club in Malaysia called Johor. Then, he moved to Greece to play for Panionios NFC.

While playing for Panionios, Travis scored a goal in a big European competition called the UEFA Cup. His team won against a famous Italian team, Udinese Calcio. He played nine games for the Greek club, including five in the UEFA Cup.

Time with Adelaide United

In 2005, Travis Dodd came back to his hometown to play for Adelaide United. He was part of the team that won the A-League Premiership in the 2005–06 season. This was a big win for the club.

On 23 May 2007, Travis became the first Australian player to score a hat-trick in the Asian Champions League. He scored all three goals in a 3–0 victory against Đồng Tâm Long An.

In July 2008, Travis became the captain of Adelaide United. He was the fourth captain for the club since it started in 2003. That year, he played very well, scoring 11 goals from his midfield position.

He even scored a goal against Waitakere United in the FIFA Club World Cup. This goal helped his team move forward in the tournament. In 2008, Travis also became the first Adelaide United player to play 100 games for the club.

Playing for Perth Glory

On 1 March 2011, Travis Dodd signed a two-year contract with another A-League club, Perth Glory. He continued to play as a key player for them.

However, on 23 March 2013, Travis suffered a serious injury during a game against Melbourne Victory. He tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), which is a major knee injury. This type of injury often keeps players off the field for a long time.

After more than a year of recovery, Travis was still unable to play. On 4 April 2014, Perth Glory announced that his contract would not be extended. This made his future as a player uncertain.

Joining MetroStars

On 7 February 2016, Travis Dodd signed with North Eastern MetroStars, a club in South Australia's National Premier League.

Sadly, he tore his ACL again during the last game of that season. After this second serious injury, Travis began to think about moving into coaching.

International Football for Australia

Travis Dodd made his first appearance for the Australian national team on 16 August 2006. This was an AFC Cup qualifying match against Kuwait at Allianz Stadium.

He scored the first goal for Australia in that game, helping them win 2–0. This goal was very special because it was the first international goal ever scored by an Indigenous Australian player.

Travis Dodd's Coaching Career

After his playing career, Travis Dodd moved into coaching. He joined the Adelaide United (W-League) team as an assistant coach during the 2017–18 season. He has continued to work as a coach, sharing his experience and knowledge with new players.
