Travis Dodd, born on January 6, 1980, is an Australian football (soccer) coach and former player. He was known for playing as an attacking midfielder, winger, or striker. Travis made history as the first Indigenous Australian to score a goal for Australia's national football team. He last played for North Eastern MetroStars SC in South Australia.

Playing Career Highlights

Travis Dodd started his football journey in Elizabeth, South Australia. In 1996, he joined the South Australian Sports Institute. He became one of the youngest players ever for Adelaide City in the National Soccer League (NSL). He was also one of only five players in NSL history to score three goals in a game after coming on as a substitute. This happened in a 4–1 win against Football Kingz in 2003.

After the 2003–04 NSL season, Travis played overseas. He joined the Malaysian club Johor and then the Greek club Panionios NFC. While playing for Panionios, Dodd scored a goal in a UEFA Cup match against the famous Italian team Udinese Calcio. His time in Greece was short because a new manager took over, and he didn't get to play much. He played nine games for Panionios, including five in the UEFA Cup.

Adelaide United Success

In 2005, Travis Dodd returned to his hometown of Adelaide. He joined Adelaide United and helped them win the A-League Premiership in the 2005–06 season.

On May 23, 2007, Travis became the first Australian player to score three goals in a single game in the Asian Champions League. He scored all three goals in a 3–0 win against Đồng Tâm Long An. Because of his great performances in the Asian Champions League, some believed he might move to the Japanese club Kashima Antlers.

In July 2008, Travis became the captain of Adelaide United. He was the fourth captain for the team since it started in 2003. In 2008, Dodd was in excellent form, scoring 11 goals from his midfield position. This included a goal against New Zealand's Waitakere United in the FIFA Club World Cup. That goal helped his team reach the Quarterfinals. Also in 2008, Travis was the first Adelaide United player to play 100 competitive games. He scored the only goal in a 1–0 win over Perth Glory in the first round of the 2008–09 A-League season.

Perth Glory and Injuries

On March 1, 2011, it was announced that Travis Dodd had signed a two-year contract with the A-League club Perth Glory.

On March 23, 2013, Travis suffered a serious injury during a league match against Melbourne Victory. He tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), which meant he might not be able to play for up to 12 months.

After more than a year of recovery, Travis was still unable to play. On April 4, 2014, Perth Glory announced that his contract would not be extended. This made his future playing career uncertain.

MetroStars Return

On February 7, 2016, Travis Dodd signed with the South Australian club MetroStars in the National Premier League. Sadly, he tore his ACL again during the last game of the regular season. After this, he decided to move into coaching for 2017.

International Career

Travis Dodd's first international game for Australia was an AFC Cup qualifier. It was against Kuwait at Allianz Stadium on August 16, 2006. He scored the first goal for Australia in their 2–0 win. This goal was very special because it was the first international goal ever scored by an Indigenous Australian player.

Coaching Career

Travis Dodd joined the W-League team Adelaide United as an assistant coach during the 2017–18 season.
