Treason The Musical is a stage show that tells a story through songs. It was created by Ricky Allan, who wrote the music and words. Kieran Lynn also helped write the story. The musical is all about the famous Gunpowder Plot from 1605. This historical event happened in England in 1605. A group of people tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament. They wanted to kill King James I.
How the Musical Was Made
This musical was first announced in November 2020. A short collection of five songs was released. It featured singers like Hadley Fraser and Rosalie Craig.
In March 2021, a special concert was filmed. It took place at the Cadogan Hall. Many talented performers were in it. These included Lucie Jones and Bradley Jaden. Three more songs were released from this concert. They were part of a new collection called Acoustic Fables.
Workshops were held to develop the show further. Students from the Royal Academy of Arts helped in December 2021. More workshops happened in March 2021.
In August 2022, two concerts were performed. They were completely sold out. These shows happened at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Famous actors like Carrie Hope Fletcher and Les Dennis starred. A live album of the concert was released. It was called Lighting the Fuse. This album came out in February 2023. Another six-week workshop was held in March 2023.
First Live Performances
The musical had its very first full stage production in 2023. It started at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre. The show ran there from October 25 to October 28, 2023.
After Edinburgh, the musical went on a tour. It visited several other cities in the UK.
- It played at the Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield. This was from October 31 to November 4.
- Next, it went to Alexandra Palace in London. Shows ran there from November 8 to November 18.
- The tour finished at the Orchard Theatre, Dartford. Performances were from November 21 to November 25.
Hannah Chissick directed this first production. The cast included Nicole Raquel Dennis as Martha Percy. Joe McFadden played King James I of England. Emilie Louise Israel played Anne Vaux.
