The Treaty of Allahabad was an important agreement signed on August 16, 1765. It was made between the Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II and Robert Clive from the East India Company. This treaty happened after a big battle called the Battle of Buxar in 1764. An Indian scribe named I'tisam-ud-Din wrote down the treaty.

Money and Land

In return, the Company agreed to pay the Emperor Shah Alam II a yearly amount. This amount was 26 lakhs of rupees. That's like 260,000 British pounds at the time. This money was for the Emperor to run his court in Allahabad.
The treaty also gave Shah Alam II control over the districts of Kada and Allahabad. Another area, Varanasi, was returned to him. But he had to keep paying taxes to the Company.
A New Alliance
The treaty also created an alliance. The East India Company promised to help the Nawab of Awadh, Shuja-ud-Daulah. They would protect him from attacks. But the Nawab had to pay for the Company's soldiers.
This made the Nawab dependent on the Company. He also had to pay 50 lakhs of rupees to the Company. This was to cover the costs of the war.
